Disaster in Disguise

I moved into the Royal Fir Apts which looked like a decent, nice place to live, nothing spectacular. You could tell they were older and the rent was cheap (485 to start). The managers were gruff but friendly. Their office was a disaster and how Clare kept track of things I have no idea! My apt was "newly" painted on the inside, well, parts of it were painted (I noticed two different colors/sheens of off white). Then the stale smoke smell surfaced after moving in and anything white took on a black film. You could also see the outlines of things that were on shelves in the pantry and the walls. The second night I was there it was raining pretty hard and I noticed my back porch was slowly filling with with water (basement apt). Eventually it was getting to the point where it was in my apt (it flooded twice) and all management did was swap out sump pumps (which meant I had to have it on using my electricity to keep water from flooding my apt and sometimes it didn't even work...awesome!) Needless to say, it was never really fixed, just a temporary fix. Eventually, new management came in, raised the rent and slowly started working on the outsides of the apts...painting, landscaping, etc. It looked nice but my problem was the INSIDE. I had terrible issues with black mold, most likely from all the water. My apt did flood again in the middle of the night (third time is a charm! and I do have pics of the mess), filling up my back porch, flooding my pantry, dining room and part of the living room where is soaked some of the carpet and the new maintenance did fix it properly the next morning by cleaning out the drain. Mind you, I had to then deal with getting the carpet dried and fixed along with my bathroom tiles that were coming up from all the water damage and mold. There's a week of having to keep a space heater on in the bathroom so it would dry. The new manager, Trina was always nice, but always busy. I know this wasn't all their fault but the apts really need to be revamped and no doubt the rent will go up again and more people will be moving out. I would never recommend Royal Firs/Montclair Terrace to anyone. SROlYjGrgm2VnM-SactV
