I moved into SMBB at the beginning of August 2007 with my boyfriend. We moved into the second bedroom in a 2-bed apartment, on verbal sublet agreement from the girl leasing the apartment. We didn't want to be on the lease since we wanted to sublet the room for a short period (a couple of months) and she agreed that this was fine with her. We pay our rent and utilities on time, no problems, and at first everything seemed peachy.

Then one day our postal carrier showed up at our door with a package for me. Over my name, and this address, a big X had been drawn and "NOT HERE" written over it. The carrier wanted to check to see if I really was here before returning the package to its sender. Apparently because my name isn't on the lease, my mail was being turned away at the office! My boyfriend and I went into the office to tell them that we moved in, and to please stop turning away our mail.

The management simply smiled and handed us two applications, stating that if we wanted to receive mail here we would have to be on the lease (and pay $38 each for screening)! I had another package scheduled to arrive that day, and told the lady at the desk. I said we were short-term subletting, we didn't want to be on the lease, and would you please accept a package today in my name' She wrote my name and apartment number down, but guess what' That package never came. (Actually, it did eventually come a month later, after it as returned to sender in Florida, sent back AGAIN with a note from the sender, "please let office know you live here.")

They've now terminated our roommate's lease because they determined that two people over 18 are living here, not on the lease (us). And then they had the gall to CONTINUE to turn away our mail and write "NOT HERE" knowing FULL WELL we ARE here!! I have never encountered such hostility from a manager before. We're quiet, clean tenants that pay our bills on time! What the hell is the problem'

On top of that, the predatory towing company that makes the rounds in the parking lot has twice now left "warning" notes (with no name or contact #, no official letterhead - it's just a lame form notice anybody could buy at office depot) threatening to tow my boyfriend's car because he has expired CA tags. They haven't succeeded in towing it yet, since we leave whenever they "schedule" a tow (thankfully so far it's been advance notice) and come back later after normal business hours. But it makes me extremely angry that they have the gall to threaten to tow a car that's parked not in the fire lane or in an unauthorized spot, but in the private assigned space for our apartment!!

Again, we are good tenants - much quieter than virtually all of our neighbors, and pay our rent on time - but I feel were being driven out by draconian, condescending management that throws a hissy fit and makes your life difficult if they don't like you (or your dirty car). This might be a nice complex if not for the -------s who run the place.

Maybe it's nice if you're a typical whitebread family of four with stellar credit and years at one job and 3x your rent in income (all requirements to be on the lease, none of which my boyfriend and I meet, having just moved here from CA recently and having had no time to establish ourselves in this state yet). But if you're a college student or new to the state like we are, expect to be treated like scum. I would NOT recommend this place after all the hassles we have been handed by management.

1) I'm was a college student when I rented here and everything was fine. 2) If you are NOT on the lease you shouldn't be getting mail or parking in a assigned parking spot for a unit that requires a lease. (Or are you now on a lease?)

You keep writing your good tenants, but if your not on the lease then your not a tenant. This is regular Oregon Landlord/Tenant rules. Anyone living on the premises must be screened. I'm sure this rule was in your friends lease too! For your car, if your tags are expied then it is not leagal yo drive, duh! Get it off hte property so us real tenants have a place to park. You must be you failing college?

wow you are a f***ing idiot! of course your mail was turned away... YOU'RE NOT ON THE LEASE.. THEREFOR YOU DON'T LIVE THERE. by the way.. its against the law to sublet out a room of an apartment that you re renting. hmmm... someone needs to take a few more classes in college.
