Moving here was a huge mistake

I have lived at Scott Mountain since August of this year. I'm a senior in college so I've lived in my share of different locations. I've never taken the time out to complain about any experience I've ever had, not food or experiences. But I find myself so dissatisfied with my living situation that I feel the need to take the time out of my day to hopefully warn someone looking to move here.

The first inconvenience of living here is that NOTHING is included in the rent. I pay $830.00 for a two-bedroom apartment which is not good, not bad. But every other apartment we looked at included at least something. Its not the expense that is a nuisance, but the inconvenience.
Next I would like to point out the mail room. It has hours, 10am-10:30pm. So if you leave early or come home late, checking YOUR OWN MAIL is not an option. People wrote comments saying that its for the resident's protection, but... isn't that what a locked mailbox is for'' And if they feel the need to suddenly care about the residents who live here, why not secured entry in addition to secure mailboxes' Also, all packages are sent to the office, which means having to see/talk to the staff (the worst part of living here), and if you don't pick it up in 2 days it is sent back to the post office.
Which reminds me of the pet policy. They posted in a monthly newsletter that if they see any cats on the property, animal control will be called and the cat taken away. They have an indoor cats only policy ($350 later), but come on, is threatening your resident's pets really necessary'
Animal control isn't the only number on their speed dial, DMV is also on there. They post 'parking violations' on ANY cars with expired tags.
When you are looking for an apartment, its all about comparing prices and amenities with availability and location. The amenities at SMBB are a joke. The "workout room" consists of 3 machines in a teeny tiny room with a big window looking so that the staff office can see in. The pool is small, but what you'd expect, no complaints there. The part that I absolutely hate is the 'rec pass' that must be shown upon EVERY entry to the pool, hot tub, "gym," etc. There are 2 of us in our apartment, but we only get one rec pass. After the management staff goes home, they have a lady who checks each persons rec pass until closing time. It makes me feel like a child and like I'm being monitored at all times. Definitely takes all the enjoyment out of any time spent there.
The staff is unprofessional, rude, and condescending no matter what the interaction. The oldest lady seems bipolar- being really rude and awkward, then suddenly switching to overly nice all in the same interaction. The other two are nicER, but call with any questions or come to get a package, and they will make you feel stupid for asking or like you are interrupting their day.

I was in a bind when I moved into these apartments, didn't have the time or money to spend looking anymore than I did. I did read some reviews on this website, but gave it the benefit of the doubt and moved in. If you are thinking about moving here, don't give them that. Move anywhere else. I could keep talking for at least two more paragraphs about negative experiences and aspects of this complex. It really effects your happiness when you don't like where you live, I feel like I live in a dorm, where my actions are scrutinized and I am the bad guy who going to do something wrong. The only thing that would make me happy at this point would be to somehow get out of my lease. But unfortunately all I can do is hopefully prevent someone else from making the same mistake I did.

I would like to add that the maintenance people are very nice and seem to care. They do a great job.

Hey I so agree with you. I moved here around the same time you did and i have nothing but problems problems and FREAKIN PROBLEMS i would do anything to move out of this ---- HOLE. But in order to do that the unprofessional RUDE ASS STAFF says oh you need to pay and extra months worth of rent. I also have a MOLD problem in my apartment and they came out to try to fix that issue 4 times along with my bathroom. So to the --- below who said "Your dumb! Just follow the rules." F$&# you it was probably one of the staff members who wrote that HAHAHAHA THESE APARTMENTS SUCK MOVING HERE IS THE BIGGEST MISTAKE EVER!!!

You are a f'n retard, I'm glad you moved out so we don't have stupid people so close. Get over the extra for the utilities a lot of places are like that and if they aren't oh, your rent goes from 680 to 710, do you feel better now? Congrats. And keep your cat to yourself, stop polluting the world and not taking care of your pets. I like to read idiots that review places, because it's always apparent how incredibly stupid you are when you begin to write. You are the biggest mistake ever for being born.
