I lived in Shadow Hills for just under a year. Overall, the place is okay. The location is great for access to downtown, the pool is nice and I understand that the workout room is pretty good. There are several newer units on the west end of the complex, I was not in one of those. The apt I was in was circa 1970s. The stove was definitely older than I am. The dishwasher didn't work, despite numerous attempts to fix it (they refused to replace it). There was mold growing the bathroom and the toliets constantly got clogged. The carpets were in horrible condition, the place is really cold in the winter (poor windows), and they started charging for garbage, water, and sewage.
My biggest complaint is the noise. There are SEVERAL very rude individuals who reside at Shadow Hills and they have a tendency to be VERY noisy. I think they are mainly college-aged students who have several friends over all the time and at all hours of the night. I consider myself a pretty relaxed person, but they drove me nuts. I am a light sleeper so it was near impossible to fall asleep many nights.
Overall, the place is okay. I found the staff to be friendly, albeit a little absent minded. I've heard and read horror stories about what they charge after you move out (I just moved this weekend, I'll let you know if there is more trouble). But if you can tolerate (or enjoy) a party atmosphere for your home, then this place is okay. Didn't work for me
