You really cannot beat this place. Sure, there are a few quirks. But, for the price, the location and apartments cannot be beat. I am not a huge fan of the Pearl, but living so close to downtown is nice. I get to walk to work and get a great cup of coffee every morning. The interior is clean, but not in a weird, sterile, hyper-modern kind of way. There is decent street parking and the grounds and common areas are well kept. I see the cleaning people every morning.

There are some neighborhood amenities that I think people overlook. 1) Forest Park is only a 30 minute or so walk away. 2) there are basketball courts and lots of grass in the south park blocks. 3) Only a short walk/streetcar ride from NW Trendythird. 4) The Bridgeport Brewery is only 3 blocks away. 5) NW Industrial area is next door -- cool. 5) Videorama = awesome video store. 6) Tanner Springs/Jamison Square Park. 7) Short walk to Old Town/Chinatown. 8) Powell's is only a 20 minute walk. The list could go on much longer.

Cons: the train noise gets annoying every now and again. But, if you don't like noise, then maybe you should rethink living in Central Portland. We have buses, trains and the streetcar -- all of which make noise. The other cons just relate to my vendetta with the Pearl to begin with. This neighborhood is pretty cool, just not very diverse. There are all sorts of Starbucks-drinking yoga pants moms strutting around everywhere. It's not really what I would hope of Portland.
