Increasingly crappy

Stonebridge is basically low-income housing for people who can't afford nicer places or have made bad decisions or whatever. I'm grateful to them as they offered a livable place and didn't look too closely into my background or employment. If you need shelter until you can get your things together you could do way worse.
The buildings were shoddily constructed and receive inadequate maintenance. My apartment had ants in the bathroom but thankfully that was it for pests. The grounds have become increasingly ugly in the last couple years (more on that later).
The tenants were a mixed bag. There are some long-timers and retirees there who are great. There are also some...
- people who literally let their cats piss all over the floor until they have to change apartments (why they don't get evicted is beyond me)
- couples that fight violently
- small-time drug dealers
- loud early-20s types
There is a fair amount of crime in the area. SE Portland/Clackamas has a pretty serious Meth problem, and it effects life at Stonebridge. Items are stolen from 2nd-floor patios. Gas is siphoned out of tenant's gas tanks. Dumpsters are rummaged through for recyclables multiple times a day. At least one person was living in their vehicle when I left. There is an adjacent vacant lot whose tall grasses provide a nice place for homeless to live during summers. The SWAT team was called to Stonebridge once while I was living there. Another time, I tried to return home one Friday evening to find that the police had roped off a several-block area while they looked for a man who had just shot someone. So yeah, not a fantastic part of town.
The place was run by a couple, and unfortunately "the nice one" died a few years ago. The remaining manager isn't as personable, and it sure seems like the owners are prepared to let the place become a slum. If the places were then what they are now I'm not sure I'd have moved in, and unfortunately it seems like it is only getting worse. However, there are still some bastions of sanity there, so who knows. SEk1KnECheF1ATXbXtrZ
