Down the tubes

We moved to PDX in early 2006 and while looking for homes to purchase decided to make The Louisa our temporary home. We moved out the end of August 2007.

The Prem Group was the management company for the building. They were fantastic and really understood how to cater to the clients that could afford to rent in a building like The Louisa in the Pearl. They had top-notch staff from the people in the office to the cleaning staff and concierge.

When HSC Real Estate took over the management it was apparent from day one they were in way over their head. It was also very apparent that they were more used to running low-rent properties. At every turn they exhibited the mentality and treated everyone in the building that way. We tried to cut them some slack early on knowing that transition can be a challenge, but with every interaction with them we were made to feel like they were doing us a favor by letting us live and pay the high rent there. They treated us like their typical low-rent clients.

We had made several friends in the building and all had the same opinion and all could not move out of the building faster.

It's sad because it is in such a great location and is a great building. The people running it are in way over their head and clearly do not understand good customer service for a client that is a higher end client.

Just as one parting example. I recently received the move-out notice from them. I'm fine with the charges, but had a question. Instead of dealing with a pleasant person, HSC runs everything through their collections department. The letter I received was written in a way that was more like one you'd get if you were significantly past-due or avoiding paying them. I was connected to a collection agent who treated me extremely poorly. All I said was I wanted to double check something in my copy of the lease and that I d get back to them as soon as I had a chance. He started in on the typical collection agent rhetoric to the point that he was telling me that they would sue me if I didn't send them a check ASAP.

OK, all that grief over a piddly $350.

We spent about $25,000 in rent with them and this is how they treat their residence.

Nice.
