Be aware of what you are getting....

If you have read through the other comments, there are some facts and some exaggerations. We read these reviews ourselves before moving into our unit six months ago. While many of the negative comments are overstated, there is a basis of truth to most of them. Ever heard the phrase "where there's smoke there's fire'" Thats the case here. Like several of the other comments, I urge you to be wary of the overly positive quotes on here. The post on 12/04 about "whiney tenants" sounds suspiciously like something written by one of the property managers. Take it with a grain of salt and a healthy dose of skepticism. Here's our take on a few of the common complaints:

Parking: The garages are fine for anyone with a normal size vehicle. They might be a little tight for a big S.U.V., but our sedan fits fine and we still have room for plenty of storage space in the garage. It sucks if you have more than one vehicle but you can usually find a spot on the street on WEEKNIGHTS. Good luck on the weekend though.....

Appliances: The washer and dryer are great, but as has been previously noted in several of these comments, the dishwashers are a little lacking. However, this is on par with dishwashers in most rentals.

Noise: The walls are thin and YOU CAN HEAR EVERYTHING that goes on in the units adjoining yours. This includes what t.v. shows they are watching, doors & cabinets slamming, conversations, sex, etc. Because the units are pretty spendy compared to an apartment, there are many that have 3-4 people in their 20s living together to split their rent (the lease allows up to 5 tenants to split a unit). If you are unlucky enough to live in an adjoining unit with one of these groups, good luck getting any sleep at night. If you have kids, good luck getting them to bed at a reasonable hour. While most (not all) tenants are pretty good about abiding by the stated quiet hours, keep in mind that a t.v. or stereo at normal volume can still be loud enough through your walls to keep you or your kids awake. If you live next to one of these twenty-something party units, forget about it. I suspect the walls between units are seriously lacking in insulation because they seem to act like large echo chambers, picking up what is going on in neighboring units and amplifying it.

Maintenance: This has been the biggest problem for us. Our garage door opener has been on the fritz since the day we moved in. The first three times we complained and tried to get work done, the property managers tried to tell us the problem was we were not pushing the button properly. Then they tried to convince us we just needed to jiggle the sensor a little bit. Of course, none of these was the real problem. After repeated attempts to get it fixed, we finally prevailed on getting a maintenance person to come look at it. The response was for the maintenance man to come during the day while we were at work and proceed to do absolutely nothing but leave us a note that said he needed the garage door remote to fix the problem. So we had to spend a week going through the whole process again to get the manager to write a repair ticket again. This time the maintenance man came during the day again and did absolutely nothing but leave us another note saying he needed both remotes before he could do any work. What a load of absolute c**p! Pure laziness! So, we had to spend another week of daily complaining to finally get another repair ticket written. We physically handed BOTH remotes to the manager, and.. miraculously after 6 months.. we got our garage door fixed! This is indicative of the level of service and response you can expect to having things fixed if you live here. This is just a single example of a common complaint about living here.

Green areas: Yes, there is limited play space and green areas for children. However, this is not any more limited than what you would find in any other apartment community. Quite frankly, if you can afford the rent on these places then you can afford to rent a house with a yard. If you have kids and this is an important issue for you I would advise you to move elsewhere.

Pool and gym: Yes, both are a joke but both are free. The pool is tiny but adequate for splashing off to avoid the heat on a hot summer day. The gym is small (about the size of a large bedroom) but has a nice treadmill and bike. The weights are the worst thing I have ever seen, but hey, its free! If you want an occasional workout, it is okay since its free. If you are serious about exercising you are going to need to get a membership at a real gym.

Internet: Okay. Its not as good as a cable internet but it is much faster than a dial-up and it is free. On average it goes down about one day a month. It is annoying when it happens but you cant complain because its free and works fine the rest of the time.

Units: The units themselves are gorgeous. They are spacious and beautifully decorated. The high ceilings and fireplace are great. The only thing they are lacking from a practical standpoint is central air. The bedrooms on the top floor are as hot as an oven in the summer. Bring your own window a.c. unit if you plan on sleeping in the master bedroom during June, July, and August.

Like any rental unit, these have their pros and cons. Some minor and some deal-breakers depending on where you place your priorities. My only advice to anyone considering living here is go in with your eyes open and no what you are getting for your money, both good and bad.
