A nice place overall

This place has gotten a lot of bad rap, so I thought I would post a positive review.
I moved from CA and I found this complex online. I had never visited before getting my lease set up and utilities arranged. It wasn't until after this that I came across this site and was very worried! I was so scared I made a poor decision.
But! I have been here two months and I LOVE IT.
However, I can see how many of the residents can be frustrated. I believe that while your enjoyment of this complex depends entirely on location of your unit. Here is what I have found:
- The row houses on 183rd between Chemeketa and West Union would not be very pleasant. Although cheaper, they lack windows along each side of the units. The only windows are at the ends. The buildings are also very close together so sounds would tend to echo, and with neighbors on both walls, sounds through the adjoining walls probably travel well.
- The homes between 185th and 183rd have good layouts that provide for good lighting, but they are crammed so close together that you are looking into your neighbors windows, unless you happened to have a unit facing the street. 185th and Springville are very very busy streets during rush hour, so traffic noise would be loud. If you are facing Chemeketa, they might be tolerable.
- The best units, of which I was I was lucky enough to get, without knowing it, are on the west side of 183rd. They border a housing community with large trees in most of the backyards, so there isn't any noise like the other parts of the complex. From my living room all I can see are trees and bits of house. It's so peaceful.
I haven't been in any of the other units, but I have the Meriwether floor plan and it's fantastic. Big open living room, big open kitchen, and spacious bedrooms. The only thing that I wish was different was the entry way, as soon as you open the door it's a stairway. So you almost have to stand on the first step to open the front door all the way and there is no window, so unless you have the light on it's pitch black even during the day. That's a minor annoyance, but I can deal with it =)
The garages are long and narrow. I think if you had two small cars you can probably park both in. If you have a bigger car you may be able to fit if you are a precision driver. Most of the cars that park on the streets are larger vehicles that probably don't fit in the garage. I have one car and there is plenty of room, and I haven't had a problem with not having parking on the street.
Staff is very friendly and I haven't had any problems with maintenance repairs, mostly because nothing major has gone wrong.
The outside company's trash service here sucks! They don't take any of the recycling they don't feel like taking. I think by default they want to give you the 30 gallon trash can, but even being single this is barely enough. Be sure to get the 60 gallon or more from the start!! I've had to store moving packing for several weeks and throw it away bit by bit so that they would take it. So frustrating!
I would recommend this complex to anyone, as long as they took care to find a unit that was situated nicely in the complex, because I think that makes all the difference.
