We were initially attracted to Gateway Village b/c of the Courthouse membership and the upscale feel of the complex. When we first came to check it out, the managers were extremely friendly and the model we were shown was in great shape. We put down a deposit and scheduled a move-in date. When we did move it, things went downhill very quickly. They apparently forgot that we were moving in that day and didn't "have time" to clean or paint or do any repairs to our unit. We moved in with our carpets soaking wet, marks all over the wall and other various issues.
The person moving us in was embarassed of the condition and apologized repeatedly. We were assured that we wouldn't be held responsible for the damages and things they didn't have time to clean. After settling in, we noticed how crappy the quality of the unit was. There were several cracks in the walls, very visible carpet seams, cheap/dirty fixtures, poor insulation, and other problems that you wouldn't expect from a self-professed "luxury" apartment. We submitted numerous maintenance requests the first month we were there, but never heard back from anyone. We were told they throw away the requests after a few weeks and you have to keep resubmitting them until a maintenance person gets around to fixing your problem.
Management changed after a few months of us living there and the place went from bad to worse. Parking was an absolute nightmare! There was never any free spaces and numerous cars were towed everyday. There were many days I couldn't leave my apartment because there wouldn't be a space for me to park when I returned. We never had an issue personally with management, but we witnessed residents being harassed by them for various petty reasons. Management was not approachable and were not nice at all, even to us (we kept to ourselves and never caused problems).
After 1 year had passed, we couldn't wait to leave! Throughout our year there, we kept the place very clean and organized. We didn't cause any damage and made sure that everything was in good shape when we went to move out. Nonetheless, we were worried about getting our deposit back since so many other people there got screwed out of their money. We spent 9 hours scrubbing and cleaning every inch of our apartment -- we even steam cleaned the carpets twice the last 2 months we were there. We left the place in better condition than when we moved in.
So imagine our surprise when we get our final paper work in the mail, saying they were keeping more than half of our money for painting/cleaning/etc!! We clearly stated on our move-in checklist that there were numerous marks and holes on the walls, but we were still charged with those repairs. I tried to contact the office about our bill, but couldn't get a hold of anyone. We came to the realization that they weren't going to give us our money back and we gave up.
For anyone out there reading this, DO NOT MOVE TO GATEWAY VILLAGE!! Please, don't put yourself through the nightmare that we experienced. The place looks nice on the outside, but the awful management and cheap quality of the units are not worth the free Courthouse membership and the nice pool. lGjq8RUBjvsZjkb5ueji

Amen to that. I too think what looks nice on the outside isn't so nice when you've living there. Our utility bill was extremely high in the winter because the place was so poorly insulated. Air rushes under the front doors. When someone flushes in the buildings, you can hear the water come rushing through the apartmet. The management is very testy. Yes, the gym is a great feature, but the rest of the things negate that
