This is by far the worst apartment complex I have ever lived in. We moved to Salem, oblivious to what was good or bad so we unfortunately landed here. Most of the people who live here are hard core criminals, drug users etc There were two killings in the 12 months I lived here. We had horrible upstairs neighbors that took months to get evicted. At one point the manager "accidentally" gave us the eviction warning instead of our neighbors! We were told if we broke our lease that we would owe thousands of dollars so we had no choice but to tough it out. When we finally left, we were charged with outrageous fees for them to repaint our apartment! I called them and asked why it had to be repainted. We had done nothing to the walls! No one could give me an answer for at least a week. Then the manager finally called me back and said that it was routine that every apartment got repainted after someone moved out. She said it was in the papers we signed. I looked back at them and there was some little sentence that was really vague. I knew this was utter -------- but I just said, ok, I will pay it so you'll just leave me alone. So I did but NOW, THREE months later, we just got a call from a COLLECTION AGENCY saying that we never paid it!!! We have the receipt and a copy of our check to prove we paid it! I called lancaster commons yesterday and they promised to get back to me but they never did.
NEVER NEVER NEVER RENT FROM THIS HORRIBLE PLACE!!!!!!!!!

In response to our previous resident Mrs. H we are sorry that your experience here at Lancaster Commons was not what you had hoped. A couple points to clarify on. We have not had 2 killings in the community I'm not sure how you obtained this information. With fair housing laws we have to treat everyone the same which I hope you would understand therefore we can not waive termination fees. In Oregon there is a process we have to go through in order to have someone evicted as it is not the quickest process we do still have to abide by Oregon laws. So if you are having an issue with your neighbors we have to extend them the same courtesy we would extend you. Because an eviction does stay on your record for up to 7 years we do not take evicting someone lightly. As we had spoke about on previous conversations we would be happy to show you pictures of your apartment and the condition that you left it in. However, you declined. We only charge what we have been charged, for your move out costs which is well below a rate you would be charged should you call to get estimates. You had called yesterday in regards to the collection agency and I returned your call this morning. As I would like to get immediate answers when you call later in the afternoon I have to reach the collection agency and they may of gone home for the day or not been at their desk as I'm sure you as well take breaks during the day. We strive for outstanding customer service and appreciate your feedback.

I was never asked if I wanted to see pictures of my apartment so how could I have declined? Everyone I talk to in the office has a different story for me. I'm glad this latest mess has been corrected at least. Hopefully I dont get another call from a collection agency down the road. You could have at least apologized for that one.

Also, it was VERY innapprpriate to mention even the poster's last initial. This is an annonymous forum, and it is their RIGHT to remain annonymous. It is unprofessional to use this consumer forum to passively or actively punish any individual.

I suggest that the person who was reported to the collection agency file a complaint with the FTC. It's actually illegal to report items that have been paid and Lancaster Commons will be fined in excess of 2500 for the violation. The FTC can order them to pay you 2500 in excess of the fine. I would also suggest that you file a complaint with the BBB and with the Chamber of Commerce. To the manager who "tried to contact" the collection agency...You shouldn't need to contact them because you should never have turned a paid item over to them. It's unprofessional and unacceptable!! You should not be working in Property management if you are not trained well enough to verify payment before you take action that will damage credit ratings and cost the VICTIM of your poor management thousands in higher interest. It's illegal and your company should be fined and you should be terminated. I do not live at Lancaster. After going to view an apartment and seeing how clearly uneducated and unprofessional the management was we decided to rent at a different complex. However, when I checked the crime in the area it was clearly reported that, at least, one murder had taken place in the complex. In fact, it's also mentioned in other ratings of this community. I should point out that it is also illegal to hide or deny crimes commited on the property or in the neighborhood.
