Martinazzi Village = meh

These apartments are fairly reasonably priced (I've been paying $795 per month for a 2-bedroom, 2-bath) and the grounds are pretty -- lots of trees and other greenery. My apartment overlooks a forest and I get to see a fair amount of wildlife. The management is easy to work with and I've always felt pretty safe here, at least inside. (The grounds can be creepy at night since they're not very well-lighted.)

If you can stand living in boring, homogenized suburbia that offers little in the way of public transportation, then the location should be okay for you. But if you're wanting easy access to Tri-Met, as well as culture (i.e. good restaurants and half-decent shopping), look elsewhere. Tualatin only offers chain restaurants (i.e. Applebee's) and shopping is dismal. And if you're looking to get downtown by bus, be prepared for a two-hour odyssey. (And that's only one way.) You need absolutely to have a car if you're going to live here.

As for the apartments themselves, they tend to have a terrible mold problem which is an issue for people with allergies. The units tend to be very dark and cold, even in the summer. Also, since the apartments are old, noise transmits very easily -- try to get a top-floor unit because if you're on the ground floor, you'll hear your neighbor's every move which has caused me to have more than one sleepless night thanks to my neighbor's stupid yippy dog and the woman's penchant for vacuuming at midnight. (Seriously.) Keep in mind that each unit comes with only one parking spot and there isn't much unassigned parking. Also, be prepared to slam on your brakes repeatedly in said parking lot because the complex is overrun with unsupervised little kids. If you have pets, be prepared to shell out a whole lot of cash because the management requires a $400 deposit per pet. (Ouch.)

If you're looking for a family-friendly environment in the burbs, this complex may be a good choice. But if you're single and wanting a place closer to civilization, look elsewhere.
