New rate to continue lease higher than new tenants' rate

Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2006
 
We've been living here for over two years; yet in 6 months it went from $930 to $1265! If we wanted to continue another 6 month lease, it would have still gone up to $1150/month. That is completely unfair and is the reason we had to move. Management is not helpful and are never available.
