Poorly designed cardboard boxes

These buildings are garbage...where to begin'

Cable wiring not updated for internet...you must have a landline or satellite. This is unacceptable in this day and age. (You can get cable, but you must have a landline to "send" - this means your bill is nearly 100 bucks for internet alone. BS.

Heating vents are on the ceiling, so your heat must run constantly to keep you warm. Since heat rises, this means that your floors are always cold in winter. These apartments are so drafty, and the windows are too. It's terrible in the winter.

Floors are like paper...my downstairs neighbors can hear everything I do. They have told me that they can hear me pee. They pound on their ceiling if I play music, and have come to my door and threatened me. These buildings are like cardboard boxes, constantly reminding you that you live in an apartment...no privacy. Feels more like a dormitory than an apartment.

Washer/Dryer has no vent to outside. Its just stuck in a closet. This means when you dry your clothing, the steam fills your apartment, and your clothes take 2 hours to dry. Nice.

No deadbolt on doors from the outside. If you go on vacation, you better hope the doorknob lock works.

They use the exercise room/pool for a storage area. Fuses are constantly blown, and getting a treadmill and TV to work without blowing a fuse is a gamble. Quality.

When I moved in, the sink wasn't calked to the cabinet...it dripped water down below until I called and complained. They promptly fixed it.

The shower head is about four feet high. This is great for when I only want to wash things below my neck, or when I have midgets come over for showers.

The carpeting is cheaper than cheap. After 7 months here, it still fills my vacuum with fuzz every time I vacuum. After a year of this, there won't be any carpet left.

Painted paneling in all rooms, peeling kitchen wallpaper, drafty windows and closets, crooked light switches/outlets, etc. all detract from this place.

Gas appliances (water heater, furnace, etc) are so incredibly cheap and inefficient, my gas bill in the winter months came close to $200 dollars. I am just a guy who takes a shower in the morning and keeps the thermostat at 65 degrees. Why is my gas bill nearly $200'

When moving in, my sofa wouldn't fit through the doorway and up the stairs. I had to get rid of my sofa because of the way this place was designed.

The property is not very well lit, in my opinion. I have to leave my porch light on if I go out at night so I can find the doorknob in the dark. If I were a woman this would make me more nervous, since all entrances are individual.

Other than all that, it's great.

Lived here?

I lived at this complex for 4 years. Started in a 1 bedroom and then switched to a 2 bedroom (needed an extra bedroom for my office) I had absolutely NO problems while living there and absolutely LOVED it there. Only reason why I moved was because we bought a house.

As far as the cable wiring - HAD Verizon DSL, so I don't know what you are talking about! Even with Verizon DSL you need an outside line to "send" You can get one of these for $14 a month which is what we paid up till last year.

My neighbors never heard a Peep, nor did I hear them - 1st unit had a large dog downstairs and 2nd unit had a baby next door and we never heard anything - so once again I have NO idea what your talking about!

Washer/Dryer? Even in our home our washer/dryer is in a closet - It NEVER took 2 hours to dry anything and had NO problem with steam coming into the apartments - Don't know what your talking about!

Gas bill $200 I seriously doubt you are keeping your thermostate at 65 like you claim. Both Gas and Electric bills together came in under $100 a month and that was in the 2 bedroom unit.

You are exaggerating about the shower head. I am 5'3" tall and the shower head was not down near my neck area. It's height is more like 6' so quit exaggerating.

The fitness center was great - oh and only the room in the back was used for storage - another exaggeration there.

As far as the lighting, when I was there they had those huge lights up in the parking lots. The street lamps were the property of PPL, there was nothing they could do about those - try calling PPL to complain about that

Sounds like your just a crank and wouldn't be happy anywhere and if your so unhappy, then why not move? We looked at plenty of other apartment complexs in the area, and you want to talk about "garbage" then take a look at the apartments behind Redner's.

After 4 years the overall experience of living at Allendale was EXCEPTIONAL. We Loved it there!

The rebuttal response obviously came from someone who works at Allendale. Nice try. I am not the original poster of this review, but I, too, lived in Allendale Apartments for 7 years. It's all true...the drafty windows, high utility bills, poor carpet, cheap paneling, etc. The dry is NOT vented anywhere, so that closet was a constant mess of lint everywhere. I was never so happy to move out of there.

Haha! I find it funny that some of these people swear this is a dump, yet they have lived here for 7 years. I myself have lived here 5 years and could never be happier. Of course you can't please everybody, but I think maintenance and the office staff are great. The model does look a little different from what you get, but you have to remember that nobody lives there, of course its going to be top notch. The only better you are going to get is buying your own home, so that you can have everything exactly the way you want it.

I have lived in Allendale for almost 2 years. The only reason we have stayed is because we have a husky and not many places will accept him (although he is small and hasn't seemed to figure out he is a husky yet). The dryer does vent into a closet. The places are a mess. We moved from a 2 bedroom to a 1 bedroom. We are spending more trying to heat our 1 bedroom than we did the 2 bedroom, obviously there are drafts. The 1 bedroom wasn't even cleaned before we moved in and if it was well it left a lot to be desired. The carpet is cheap but that seems to be a trend with apartments. The "maintenance" doesn't know what they are doing and are not prompt. Our stove needed to be fixed and they didn't even know how to turn it on to check it. Oh and they way they "fix" a leak from the sink (we have called on this several times and I get to do so again) is by continuing to tighten it to the point it has actually cracked. I have called them several times about issues and the only one they were prompt about is when my door wouldn't close and lock! At least that one was prompt. The gap between the door and the frame is big enough that you see daylight through and yes the walls and ceilings/floors are paper thin. I can also feel the draft from the windows. I live in a downstairs apartment and can hear the upstairs pee, take showers, etc. I was even able to hear my upstairs neighbors in the 2 bedroom we were in living their daily life. Although some things seem to have changed since you can get Verizon if you like them or RCN (those are your only chooses and yes I have checked we are listed as an RCN only complex)and there are deadbolts now. Lighting is less to be desirable. We may now have to leave because unexpected circumstances cause us to now need a 3 bedroom and because we moved into the 1 bedroom less than 12 months ago they don't want to let us move to a larger apartment. The appliances including the furnace are outdated and this comes from an actual licensed engineer. As far as people living some place they don't like for so long, who likes to move? I would love to be able to move into my own home or to a nicer place but the likely hood of owning my own home soon, not. Moving to another place likely since we may not have a choice. The staff is not that great. As far as streetlamps being the property of PPL and to call them. . .we live in an apartment complex that is the apartment complex's responsibility that is why we pay rent!
