If you have to live downtown....

Six years ago when I moved to Allentown this was the best complex this town had to offer. While not a new property it was well kept and the apartment was freshly painted and had new carpet. Covered parking was available and there were gates at all entrances to the property.
Look beyond the nice landscaping and freshly painted buildings and your apartment will reveal 1970’s construction with period appliances heating and air conditioning systems, and poor construction to limit the noise of your neighbors. My dishwasher, heat pump, and hot water heater (x2) have been replaced. If history repeats itself my laundry room will flood with two times this summer due to a clogged floor drain.
I will say that most problems are fixed in a day. Typically I call early in the morning and the problem is fixed by the time I return from work. One instance two years ago did take too long to resolve. There was a water leak that was soaking my living room carpet. It took nearly 3 weeks to fix the problem.
Center city Allentown is impoverished. Riverbend is somewhat of an oasis surrounded by tenements and government housing. I have never had a break in or any problems but occasionally the management will send a note informing the residents of a break in.
Winters in Allentown can be bad. The parking lot does get plowed but usually not before you need to leave for work. Buy a shovel and some boots. When you get home from work the lot is plowed and the sidewalks are clear.
There are newer complexes in the area now. I’m moving when my lease expires. I want an apartment with newer appliances, fixtures and noise insulation
