Just not for me

When my husband and I saw this place we fell in love immediately with it's size - 1050 sq. ft. for only $700 a month is a rare steal in this area - with the new carpeting, tidiness of everything, large kitchen, 2 bathrooms, and gigantic windows. We planned to keep the small bedroom as the nursery for our new baby.
Once we actually moved in in august we noticed about 5 wasps per day sneaking in somewhere near the HVAC - som alive and some dead. It took a week for maintenance to call the exterminator and all he did was spray the outside of the windows. So we got used to vacuuming the corners everyday. Other than that incident the maintenance men were always attentive, and recently haven't been grumpy and have started calling prior to arrival. They still have a habit of half-assing the job, but then again all 2 of them do a pretty good job maintaing every aspect of over 200 units. We had so many things going wrong due to the cheap construction of the place: The new caulking was cracked and chipping by winter, the refridgerator shelves kept falling from the door NOT from being over-stocked, the light switches kept shorting out, and the drawstring curtain rods kept getting jammed. By winter we learned that the 2nd bedroom was unsuitable for a newborn because it was literally about 10 degrees colder than the rest of the place. The windows all leaked severely and the corner adjacent to the HVAC was like having a big hole in the wall. The heater had to be run to ridiculous temps just to get that room inhabitable.
On the upside, the property managers are a wonderful which is a rare treat, the parking lot was kept snow-free in winter. The dishwasher worked, although the washer and drier were unreliable. The rooms were very big - especially the bedroom closet. Neighbors were wonderful. Parking was ample and well lit (but still didn't prevent our car from getting broken into) and the landscaping was very tidy. The pool was small but wet none the less. And the general location was good. All in all the place can be great for someone with different standards, but if you're looking for a place that's got soul then keep looking.
