Me and a friend and his wife moved into the Penn Alto in June of 2001. I left the place in September of 2001.

Some of the people who lived/live there are very nice, but the building itself is in a ------ part of downtown Altoona.

The elevators in the Penn Alto smelled like piss and ----, cigarette butts were all over the elevators, and when you stepped off the deathtrap elevators, you could almost expect to be subjected to the sound of porno, sexual activity, loud music, or fighting.

In that short time, I had: a lock mess up, keys, money, a bike, and a BB gun stolen from me, and yellow (yes YELLOW) water in the bathroom.

Me and my friend tried in vain to get the maintenance man (who is a 40-something loner who seems to think with his asscrack more than his brain) to fix the lock that messed up. He did replace it however...WITH ANOTHER NON-WORKING LOCK!!!!

Seeing as how we lived in a double room and not an actual apartment, we were gouged out of varying, ungodly amounts of money each month (as much as $480 one time) for stupid things like a rubber sheet which was SIMPLY REMOVED by my friend and his wife, $25 for a small, ------ fridge, and I was charged $20 a month for using MY OWN MICROWAVE! Not to mention dealing with an unkind, uncaring 70-something maid who would let herself into our place at ungodly hours of the morning to clean, having a bitchy attitude all the while.

The ladies that ran the place were a real trip. There was an older lady, then a younger broad. They were both about as polite as a dog off his leash, about to attack you. I remember being chewed out numerous times over stupid ---- by them.

To make a long story short...STAY AWAY, STAY FAR FAR AWAY! You will be better off living on the streets of Altoona.
