It "appears" to look like a great place to live....until you move in and actually live there! The apts. are so poorly insulated that no matter how high you have your heat it feels like your living outside not to mention that your electric bill will be ridiculously high (yes the heat is electric). If you make it through the winter, once warm weather arrives you have a new problem....bugs...you name it, it crawls in from all the openings of the poorly constructed buildings. Add on the severe mold problems that start once humidity comes into play. You'll have mold literally growing on anything you have in your closets and your furniture will become nice and damp. If you call maintenance about any of these problems or others that you might have, be prepared to wait for a few weeks to even get a response...them coming to do anything about it is a lost cause!
And don't buy into the soundproof firewall mumbo jumbo they try to sell you....you can hear everything and everyones tv, voices, footsteps, etc.
So if this sounds like the place for you and you like giving most of your money to PECO, then bring your dehumidifier, earplugs, and bug spray and you'll be loving life! Otherwise, there are definitely better places out there.
And for those of you who say all apartment living is the same and no matter where you go you'll have these problems has obviously only lived at Berkeley Trace.

My husband and I are considering moving here if an appropriate opening becomes available within the next three months. I have read all the reviews posted and compared them to other local apartments and their reviews. When I finished reading I called the management office to inquire about our two concerns: 1) mold problems and 2) quality/presence of insulation around the windows and doors. I explained the source of my concern and described this review site as my resource. I was shocked by the curt, defensive posture the manager immediately took. She abrupty suggested that if I had any "qualms to ask the people who live here". Well, I was struck by the humor in that I didn't even have an opportunity to develop 'qualms' as we are not tenents, and it caused me to wonder how often that seemingly familiar though defensive statement was used. Of course I didn't bother to remind her that my questions were simply based on these reviews, and these reviews were made by people who DO live there lol. She did repeat several times that she lives there herself, I guess to imply quality through association, I dunno, although I am fairly certain that as a property manager the motivation probably stems in part from the fact that she has reduced rent as an employee. Anyways, I was hoping someone currently living there could offer some much needed, current feedback on my two questions, it would be appreciated. By the way - the property manager denied any mold problem, and did not answer the insulation question as her ire went up pretty quickly and I didn't want to upset her further. Thank you much |
