I lived at Berkeley for approx. 6 years due to its close proximity to work. This was the 3rd apt. I've ever rented. When It was time to move, I couldn't move out fast enough. My unit suffered two floods (water heater & water main) within a two month time period. Needless to say, the carpets were shot. Instead of replacing them, they put fans in to dry them out. The bathroom ceiling had a leak. Instead of fixing the problem, they painted on top of it. It leaked again the following week. This went on for several months. The outside gutter poured over like Niagara Falls. There was obviously something wrong with it, but they said there wasn't. In the meantime, I constantly had mulch splashed up on my front door & window whenever it rained. The electric bills soared through the roof especially in the winter time due to poorly insulated windows. It was so bad that the heat would never shut off! A buddy of mine who installs windows for a living said that the windows should have been replaced a while ago. Again, Berkeley did nothing about it. In addition, quite a few cars have been broken into and/or stolen from the parking lot. One unit across from me was broken into in broad daylight. The screening process for future clients seems to have defeated the purpose of having one. Apparently, drug users & prostitutes have moved in as a result. The office staff are rude and inconsiderate. They should take lessons in social grace. Although this place provided a roof over my head, I was extremely disappointed.
