I've lived in the Chalets for a year now. Our experience was mostly positive, except for the garbage truck that came to collect the trash at 3 AM every other day. We also had extremely loud neighbors. We could hear every time they argued. And due to the thinness of the walls, we could actually hear them snoring below us!
Besides those small annoyances, everything else about the complex was positive, until we tried to move out.
When we gave them our 2-month notice, we were told that we were still responsible for the apartment until the 30th of November. Although we were not happy about paying double rent for 2 months, we understood and respected the procedures.
As of September 23, we moved most of our belongings out of our apartment. We left a comforter, a fleece blanket, and a piece of plexi glass to be picked up at a later date. We actually stayed in the apartment in November overnight on our way back from Philadelphia. We also made regular trips to the apartment to check on it and check the mailbox every other week.
When we came to check the mail on Thanksgiving (November 23rd), we saw that other people had been moved in and our belongings were missing. Since we had not handed in our keys, and still had bills coming to us through the end of November, we were in disbelief.
We paid rent through the end of the month for the use of that apartment. We were planning on gathering our belongings and handing in our keys this week, before November 30th.
We just don't understand why we were never contacted by the leasing office. If we were asked if it would be okay for others to move in early, we would have most likely agreed and came to gather our belongings right away.
What is very disconcerting is that our renter's insurance runs through the end of the month. We have been paying to insure an apartment that is now occupied by other tenants.
In addition, our electric bill was $25 more than it had been the past 2 months. I spoke with PECO, and they confirmed that the new tenants moved in on the 20th, and that more electricity had been used between November 5th and the 20th than in the previous 2 months. That means that people from Korman were using our electricity to get the apartment ready for the next tenants while we were still responsible for paying it.
We would just like to know how this could have happened and why we were not contacted when we were still in possession of keys to the apartment and mailbox...especially when our lease was not up until November 30th.
Korman stole $300 from us and made us pay rent through November 30th, while they were collecting rent from other tenants for the same apartment....essentially double dipping.
DO NOT RENT FROM KORMAN.

Korman in Philadelphia on East Keswick did the same thing to me years ago. They claimed they needed to begin construction for a new office in our unit and basically kicked us out knowing we were college students leaving for the summer. Not happy with ANY Korman communities that I have lived in!!! Don't try any of them...
