Great apartment, though pricey

Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2005
I moved into a one-bedroom with den in October. The apartment is spacious with a great layout. I never hear anything from the neighbors when they're in their apartments, though I do sometimes hear people who are outside in the courtyard--that's the same almost anywhere, though better windows would definitely improve the situation. Unfortunately, I live in one of the sections where the windows have not yet been replaced. They are definitely drafty and shaky, but the new ones (in other areas of the community) look nice.
The layout of the kitchen isn't the greatest for someone who likes to cook a lot, and there is definitely not enough cabinet space (I live on the second floor where there is no pantry, though I get the attic as a trade-off). The bathroom is too tiny for such a spacious place--I would have gladly given up a few feet of the huge bedroom to have more space in the bathroom. Also, there is only a tiny medicine cabinet and no cabinet under the sink. The miniature linen closet does not make up for this.
But, the dishwasher and washer/dryer are a dream. Yes, the washer and dryer are small, but I much prefer having them in the apartment. There's always plenty of parking, and I never have to park very far from my door. Electricity costs are very high, but that's too be expected of a place where everything--cooking & heat--are run on electricity. The rental agent made it very clear to us when we saw the place how high utilities would run. Not having to pay a gym membership definitely helps cut down on expenses.
The complaints about cable seem pretty bogus to me. When I moved in, the agent told me that Korman was trying to negotiate a deal to get digital cable at a steeply reduced rate ($30 per month). She told me that once they got this deal, it would be either pay the $30 or no longer get cable (which used to be included in the rent). When the deal went through, I decided not to get the digital cable--but since my lease had guaranteed free cable, it will continue 'til my lease is up in November. I think that's totally fair.
Maintenance is almost always good. We did have one problem with a window that wasn't sealed correctly. At first, they said they had fixed the problem, but they hadn't. We called again, they apologized, and I left a note detailing exactly what was wrong--and they fixed it shortly thereafter.
You do pay a premium for living in such a convenient area and getting amenities that you may or may not use, but those are just things that you have to take into consideration, whereever you move.
