I lived here for 7 years and in the beginning things were great, the people were friendly, maintenance was good, the grounds were beautiful, but everything has really gone way downhill the past two years.

Landscaping is subpar and the lawn sometimes doesn't get mowed for weeks. No one picks up after their pets.

The quality of tenant has also declined - what use to be a nice community is filled with people who let their dogs off leash, never pick up after their dogs, and litter. It's difficult to find an area of the grounds not covered in dog poo, broken glass, cigarette butts or other trash.

The maintenance team is rude and ineffective. A leaking water heater in my apt took a month to resolve, resulting in stained carpets and much aggravation.

When we left they cheated us out of our security deposit. The management team is uncoordinated - one person tells you something, but when it comes to getting your deposit back, all of a sudden its all verbal and with nothing in writing you lose.

Other notes - you can hear everything your neighbors are doing, the windows are super drafty, and the a/c costs so much to run in the summer, we spent at least 3 summers just using fans to keep our bills under $200 a month.

And my car got broken into here about 4 years ago and over the past 2 years I saw cops at different courtyards at least monthly, so while I wouldn't say its unsafe, it could be better.

To say some good things... they have a beautiful clubhouse with quality gym equipment and what seems to be a very nice pool. Also the tennis courts are well maintained and there is a dog park on site. The location and open pet policy of course are key and what led us here, but given the past two years, I'd commute further than live there, it's really going downhill.

I had similar problems and the only way I was able to get my deposit back was because I had everything in writing through email and I threatened to sue. I highly recommend using email in order to document things.

I have to say I think that's a pretty harsh assessment of Village Square. I've been a resident here for over 2 years and I haven't experienced any of the problems you've had. I've had a very positive experience so far. Also, if the management makes a practice of cheating residents out of their security deposits, they probably wouldn't be in business anymore. Management has to provide a resident with a breakdown of the money being withheld from the security deposit and what it was used for (i.e. new carpet, etc.). Was there damage to your apartment? I'm sorry, I just find it hard to believe that they would keep your deposit with no written explanation of the charges. Anyway, I think Village Square has been a great place to live and I'm happy here. Sorry your experience hasn't been the same.
