Was good but went down hill

From: -Anonymous-

Years at this apartment: 2001 - 2005

This place was great when I first moved in. It was $695 per month, and all utilities were included. Slowly, over the past 4 years, things have gotten worse, and finally I've had the last straw, so I will not be renewing my lease.

Some problems, in no particular order:
(1) BUGS: The place has a problem with what I've been told are centepedes. These things appear usually from March until October, and I've seen them in all rooms of the apartment. I've complained about them many times and have been told that, though they can spray for spiders and other bugs, there is nothing they can do for centepedes.

(2) PARKING: There are no assigned spots, save for a few handicapp spots; it's a first come, first serve. But parking was fine when I first moved it. Only thing is that you should never park under the trees because they drip sap that is impossible to get removed without paying a couple hundred dollars. The past couple years, however, all of the partking spots in front of my building not under the trees have been taken. So I have to either park under the trees (and get sap on my car) or in front of one of the other buildings, which is a real pain if I have a lot of grocery bags to carry.

(3) NOISE: Since I've lived here, I've always heard doors shutting once in a while or heard someone playing their music on the weekends. I can live with that. But within the past year, music is being blasted all the times, someone is constantly practicing their piano, my neighbors don't stop argueing, and, for some reason, people feel the need to slam their apartment doors shut rather than gently closing them behind themselves. This causes my entire apartment to reverberate, and I've even had pictures fall off the walls.

(4) POWER OUTAGES: These occur far too often. I've had more outages here in the past 4 years than I've had living with my parents the preceding 22 years. And there seems to be no rhyme or reason to it. For example, they don't always happen only when it rains or something (I'll get to more on this later.) Since living here, I had outages on 2 Thanksgivings and 1 Christmas.

(5) UTILITY BILLS: When I first moved in, all utilities were included: electricity, gas, and water. The only stipulation was you had to spend less then $75 on electricity every month. I used to go over during the winter months, but whatever amount I was under during the summer months would be used as credit during the winter months. Then they decide to do away with the "credit system." You still are allowed to spend only $75 per month on electricity, but the amount I was under $75 during certain months would no longer be used as a credit for months I was over.

(6) MANAGEMENT: The manager is a real loof. She doesn't seem to be interested in anything that takes more effort than picking up a pen or a phone. Which is a real shame, because the assistant manager is the sweetest person in the world who will do anything to help you or give you advice. Here's an example of problems I've had with the head manager: Our electricity went out one day, and I called to make sure they were aware. After informing her of the problem, I ask why this always happens. She has the nerve to tell me it doesn't always happen. I replied that it happens all the time; at least a dozen time since I've lived here. And she says, "But look outside. It's a beautiful day. There's not a cloud in the sky." At first I thought I mis-heard her, because what I thought she said made absolutely no sense. Then I realized she was just feeding me a line thinking I would just accept what she said and go away.

(7) MAINTENENCE (I THINK): I put I think there, because the following problem might actually be managements fault and not maintenece. From the beginning, maintenence has always been helpful. Helping me nail up some pictures that I couldn't do by myself, etc. But in October 2004, I started complaining that my refrigerator wasn't chilling things properly. They came up, looked at the problem, and said everything was fine. Long story short, it got to the point where ice wasn't staying solid in my freezer. And my freezer was keeping things only as cold as my refrigerator should have (so I was storing everything in my freezer). Needless to say, I didn't have enough room and lost a lot of food. Finally, right before Thanksgiving, they swore they would have a new refrigerator for me in my apartment by the day after Thanksgiving. So when I came back from visiting family for a couple of days (with a bunch of left over food), lo and behold there was NO NEW REFRIGERATOR. So I flipped. I called management, but they had off that day. So I called the emergency number. They said it wasn't an emergency. I said I was told I would have a new refrigerator by today and now have food being waisted, so it's an emergency to me. Did I get my new refrigerator that day' No, I got it the following Wednesday.

It's a shame because this place had such potential when I first moved in.
