Really Don't Miss It

Years at this apartment: 2001 - 2006
I lived at Thunder Hollow for 5 years. I hated it... so why did I renew my lease each year' Because they allowed large dogs. I typically had my maintenance issues seen to in a timely manner. However, when Oxford took over, the landscaping went down hill, the type of people moving in went down hill, etc...Luckily, I now live in a different part of the country and even if I ever did move back to Bensalem, I would rent somewhere else.
I calcuated that over 5 years, I wasted over $67,000 renting an old/outdated town house. I'm now a home owner and have decided that renting is like flushing your money down the toilet each month. For some people, they have no other option. But if you can get financed for a home, stop paying the mortgage on someone else's property; get some equity of your own.
What is unfair, is that some units are actually much nicer than others. The previous owner started upgrading kitchen cabinets, flooring in the bathrooms, etc...I had the little chicklet tiles in my bathrooms in my 1 bedroom; moved to a 2 bedroom and had nice looking, brand new linoleum. No fireplace (and boy are the electric bills high!) but we made do.
I guess living at Thunder Hollow is what you make of it. If you're looking for a friendly/safe community; newer appliances; lots of windows; aestetic curb-side appeal; keep looking... However, if you have a big dog, they'll take you (and your $500 non-refundable pet deposit.
So, the choice is yours... Happy Apartment Hunting (now go contact a lender and see what type of mortgage you qualify for before you throw hundreds of thousands of dollars towards someone else's mortgage!)
