The apartments aren't bad, and for first timers it may just be all you can afford. HOWEVER if you can go else where DO!
The first few buildings look lovely, but most of the apartments behind them are horrible and if they show you one in the back, then they dont' like you or you don't have a good credit rating. The back buildings are the slums. The apartments are less properly maintained, the grounds are barely taken care of.
Not to mention the fire alarm for the local fire station going off at all hours of the night (3 and 4 times each night is the norm). The heat is not individually controlled no matter what the thermostat looks like. You can only turn the heat up to 65. For a first floor apartment that means cold winters, and cold feet!
Getting stuff fixed was a problem, we had a broken pipe and it ruined the new furniture by the time the guy came and cleaned it up and even then the rug was wet for days. It is a safe community though. Police and fire engines were a constant staple, and the people were nice and down to earth.
The apartments are older. There's very little cabinet and closet space and the oven is tiny!
All in all a thoroughly forgetable experience!
