saving money is not the best thing to do. i thought this would be a nice place to start out my new family. (this is not the first apartment i have ever lived in... i have been in plenty through my life, i know how they are, but this is the worst!) let me just say, by the time we moved out, we could not take any of our furniture with us, no sofa, no bed, no baby crib... nothing. they got bed bugs, roaches, everything... you name it! the exterminator was in soo many times and all he did was spray in little spots for a second and left and didn't come back for follow-ups unless we caled to ask for him to come back! of course, the guy above us had them first and they never bothered to tell us. when i said something to the manager, she said they don't travel in walls. i sent her a link on nbc.com and animal planet that said they travel in walls from apartment to apartment and live in laundry and boiler rooms and she didn't like that. never responded to me in that one.
i didn't have heat me entire first year there. they kept telling me it was fine when it was below 60, below 50... sure, our heat was fine. that's why when year 2 came around someone came in saying, "wow it's cold in here" and fixed it for us! we told them that we had no hot water in the bathroom ever since we moved in. it would be fine until you put the cold in... (just turn the knob a centimeter) and it would all freeze. they never believed us. they never found anything wrong with that either. i lost it and wrote the corporate HQ when my son needed a bath and it was frozen. he came out and they said it had been broken for 2 weeks. NO! IT WAS BROKEN FOR 2 YEARS! they replaced the faucet and it was fine for a couple days, then broke again. they had to fix it again. it only worked for our last 30 days in the apartment. we had flood after flood in that apartment from pipes not being fixed properly (again, they had no idea where it was coming from... but after i took pictures and told managers i was taking it to the township they jumped all over it and all the sudden they found the problem! wow!) they left a hole in my bathroom wall for months! almost half a year! then, they said they would do a second coat of spackel and paint it up the next day after finally coming out to fix it and they never did. we moved out with it still looking like crap. they made us move one of our boxes into the boiler room (that had no reason behind it except to try to blame us again instead of taking responsibility for a horribly built old apartment building) and NEVER told us when the boiler room had a flood. we went to get it shortly later when we were moving and it was soaked! we tried to take it up the stairs and the box fell apart. get this though! ROACHES AND BED BUGS FELL OUT! the bed bugs were dead and there were some shells, but the roachs were running away as the box broke. that's nice... your boiler room doesn't carry bugs, huh' that's why we stopped using the laundry room our 2nd week living here. it was too disgusting there. i was soo mad that i had to go through hundreds of dollars in bug posion to get rid of bugs ourselves just so we wouldn't be brining them with us to our new place! we have been using the posion for a year now. it was doing great until they kicked out the guy above us that brought a bunch of bugs in with him. once he left, they all ran down the kitchen wall into our kitchen. soo gross! we went crazy trying to get rid of them. not only did the roaches run down, but the bed bugs came running through the heating vents in the bedroom as well, all within a couple days of each other, all within a couple days of him leaving.
of course, if you want to save money, this is a place to live.. just make sure you have renters insurance and cover all your furniture. we didn't have that since they said it was not mandatory and we didn't think they were this bad. AND, just remember, anything you bring in, you may not be taking out. everyone that moved into my building moved out within 6 months tops. we had soo many people move in and walk right out on their lease. they all stopped to ask, "how can you take this place'" as they ran out the door packing the backs of their cars. remember, that also goes on your credit report when you run out on a lease and looks bad for your next place, and you still owe the rest of the rent until they get that apartment filled. (which may take a while)
i have plenty of photos if anyone is interested! i am not a liar. i put up with people urinating on my windows and smoking pot and blowing the smoke into my window for way too long. you close the windows and they blow it through the airconditioner. (knowing you have a new baby on a breathing tube/oxygen tank/heart moniter) i can call doylestown right now and ask them how many times i called them during my time there and it would take them a long time to get them all together. no kidding. i would call the office, and they would tell me to call the police. the police would tell me to call the office. i told them the office told me to call them and they said, "we have told them for years they need security being a place like they are, but they keep refusing." and they don't do much.
just know what you are getting into.
plus, between my husband and i, we must have gone through 6 tires due to all their "updating" of the complex and maintenance not cleaning up the parking lot when they are done... leaving nails everywhere. they popped soo many peoples tires it was ridiculous! right before we moved out, they popped mine, my husbands and my moms all in the same week! we all got them changed at the same time since they were only a day apart from each other. the tire place told us to hand the bills to the office, but we know they won't do anything.
they told us you can't hear your neighbors at all... our first night, we heard our neighbors snooring. SNOORING! that is pretty bad! we heard every word to every phone conversation, and every footstep. we heard EVERYTHING!
oh, and their laundry room which they don't show you is 1 washer and 1 dryer in each building that you all share. they are pretty much always being used, and very loud so everyone can hear them. (another reason to use the laundromat)

In late 1999 winter there was a gruesome murder of one apartment renter from a guest of another apartment in same building , it was easy to catch the murdered because he was covered in blood

oh, i know. they told me unless they hear the noises outside on their way in (which you can, they just don't feel like doing anything) they can't do anything about it... and even though i showed them photos on my digital camera of drug deals including license plates, they didn't care. they must have people they know, or family members or something in on the deals and tell them to just go down the street and do it there. it's the best place for a drug deal since cops take over 30 minutes to get there when the station is only not even 2 minutes down the street!
