Not a reasonable place to live

The apartments are small, outdated and falling apart as well as overpriced.
The kitchen is tiny with little cabinet and counter space.
No storage space...just basic closets. Linen closet is tiny.
There aren't enough electrical outlets.
If you can't afford cable you don't get many broadcast channels, several are snowy which get worse when turning on appliances.

I have never seen a mouse or rat in my building. There are small cockroaches which they may have finally eliminated.
I got to see bedbugs fleeing into my apartment when they sprayed the problem apartment next door. Of course they did not warn me or take care of my apartment.
I get 2-3 termite swarms a year.

Trying to get something fixed when I first moved here was difficult and I gave up on getting things done. Things got a little better.
I wrote several letters asking for things to be fixed that weren't.
The plumbing is shot and needs replacing. The shut off valves don't work so my leaking faucet wasn't really repaired. I have to be careful with it.

The big money "renovation" is pretty much ripping out the old bushes and putting in a million little ones with mulch, flags and nicer signs on the buildings.
If only they would fix up INSIDE the apartments!

My car was scratched up right by the front door of the building ($480 of damage) and they vandalized my neighbor's car too. I also got a dent, probably from a shopping cart. Snow is not removed from parking spaces in storms.
People park poorly...totally crooked or close to one side so you can pretty much count on your car getting dinged by other car doors.

The halls were gross and smelled...they finally just painted and recarpeted, but haven't vacuumed up the mess from the carpet install.
I occasionally smell bad odors in my kitchen and bedroom.
The laundry room is usually dirty and the halls aren't kept clean. Former tenants threw garbage in the hallways (wrappers, cigarette butts, banana peels, etc.) and luckily they were eventually evicted.

The floors creak and I can hear my downstairs neighbor hock lugies. My upstairs neighbor gets up an hour earlier and wakes me up with the creaky floor. The nails are coming out of the drywall.
My carpet was bleach stained and not in the greatest shape when I moved in. If there is padding under this carpet it is totally flattened.
Holes in walls weren't repaired, just painted over.

There are frequent fire alarms.
After I moved in, people told me there were a lot of drug dealers. I have only seen one syringe next to the trash and I do see very expensive cars come and go.
Police only seem to come here when they are called.
They removed a few trash bins so the remaining ones are often overflowing with garbage blowing all over.

There was no hot water the first year I was here and I am guessing there is plenty of hot water now only because the building is half empty.
It was 65 degrees in here once over the winter which is what they are required to provide so I had to get a space heater. It doesn't seem like I really have much control over the temperature. The bathroom (not on an outside wall) and floor gets cold.

The front doors don't fit in the frame so you can see into apartments, hear things in the hall and cigarette smoke leaks into the hall.

We aren't allowed to have air conditioners in the bedroom because it would damage the newer windows.

wow, sounds exactly like you live in the building i got my family out of! we were there from 2005-2007. sounds all too familiar. every word. i hated having to bundle up my baby that was on an oxygen tank to be able to breathe just to take him outside in the freezing snow due to people pulling that fire alarm 3 times a week some months. sometimes 3 or 4 in the morning! we never had any parking until people started getting evicted, or hating the bugs and moving out... but even then we had people parking in the spots because they didn't have spots in the other buildings or over at club risque, and they all parked in 2 spots making it so you couldn't park. i still have a huge dent in my car from my neighbor that always parked as close to my car as he could. i always tried to park in the spot next to the fire lane so i could get over as far as i could to NOT have anyone on one side of me, and ALOT of room on the other side, and the guy would come over to my spot and be really close and still hit my car door. no matter where i parked, there he was, banging my car. one time i was sitting in it when he did it and i got out and yelled at him and he just kept walking! no one cared either. my only difference was i had the drug deals constantly outside my window. they all stood right outside my window (1st floor) smoking pot and buying and selling what they had, or standing in the lot waiting for their dealers, and when someone would pull up, they would speed off. we hated their renovations. they blocked every window we had... what was the point of having a window? we couldn't see out of them... when we opened them my husband was allergic to the crap they planted and he couldn't breathe with the window open (and they never asked ANYONE if they were allergic or not), and before they planted them, we had weed being blown into our apartment. if i didn't have a high-risk pregnancy and we could have saved any money at all in the first year we were there, i wouldn't have stayed an extra year. as soon as we were there for 18 months though, we already had a place lined up... double the price, but we were OUT! the end of our lease came, and we ran! (after reporting them and getting a mediator and everything else we needed including every photo of everything there) our air conditioner didn't work and i told them for months, and i kept dehydrating over and over and they finally brought another one... to bad i went to the hospital a couple weeks later in labor and gave birth 4 months early. i got home and the one they had brought to us stopped working on one side. should i have expected anything more? it was a used one from an apartment of someone that had recently moved out.... i hope things get better for you, and everyone else that doesn't deserve to live in a place like this.

"Former tenants threw garbage in the hallways (wrappers, cigarette butts, banana peels, etc.) and luckily they were eventually evicted". Whoa, whoa, whoa!!! They actually evicted people in your building for doing wrong?!?! Be lucky you dont live in the building I live in, You can do whatever you want here and they wont do a thing to you!!! So in that sense, your kinda lucky.
