Here are my thoughts on Conwyn Arms, which I love (and would highly recommend)
Pros:
Very large rooms.
You can paint!!! It is so nice to be in an apartment building where the walls do not need to be off-white.
Nice management company. For example, some percentage of the floors (I forget the exact amount) are required to be covered by carpet (so as not to annoy people below you). When we moved in, management offered to install carpet at no cost to us. This was great, as we don't plan on living here forever and didn't want to buy area rugs.
Heat & cable (including HBO channels) is included in the rent. The only thing we pay for is phone & internet. I thought that because heat was including that we would not get enough of it, but the heat really streams is-- the temps reach balmy lofts (for example, it's in the high 70s now, and it's pretty cold outside.)
There are 6 washers, and 6 driers in the basement. I have never had to wait too long. The residents are a mix of older people and younger working people, so the times when people use the machines seems spread out (i.e., not everyone needs to use the machines on the weekend).
People seem really friendly, but for the most part keep to themselves.
The walls seem really thick. I sometimes hear my neighbors if I'm in the kitchen, but I can't make out whole conversations. I NEVER hear music. It's the quietest apartment I have ever been in.
There are little patios (large enough for a table & chairs)-- it's nice to have our own little outdoor space.
There is adequate space in the kitchen (and room to put in some shelving if you need more storage space).
A minor (but nice thing)-- if you order a newspaper, it is delivered right to your door (so you don't need to walk downstairs to pick it up.)
Less than a five-minute walk to the train station (which is about 2 blocks away).
There is adequate parking (you can park in the lot in back of the building for free, or pay to have a spot in the garage).
Cons:
The heat is actually too strong... we sometimes open the doors to cool it down-- the thermostat seems more decorative than functional.
The outside of the building is incredibly ugly.
I wish there was more storage space.
The windows here are HORRIBLE. Some of them are impossible to open-- and of the ones that do open, it is really hard to close them. If there is one thing that I would change about the apartment, it would be to change the windows. They are old, stubborn, and ugly.
In the summer, the lawn maintenance people start working with their machines at an ungodly early hour (sometimes before 8am).
Some bathrooms haven't been updated since the place was built-- the colors are pretty hideous (e.g., pink and gray tile, or baby blue tile).
Overall, I absolutely love this complex. We looked at a number of apartments before picking this one. I was most concerned with sound-- I didn't want too many vicarious experiences. I also wanted to find a place close to public transportation. I love the fact that heat is included & that we have too much heat instead of not enough. For the price, I feel like we're getting a great deal. If they fixed the windows, this place would be close to perfect.

Just an update: All new windows and patio doors were recently installed. Thanks, management!

You should have seen how they replaced the windows. The crew came in with hammers and just smashed the glass out.
