4-year resident - some good aspects and some bad

The good: The area is nice, old buildings, sharp floors. there are only 4 apartments to 1 entrance, so you feel a lot more connected to the outside. Location is within walking distance to Bryn Mawr and R5, and is right on the R100. Maintenance seems pretty responsive.
The bad: Hardwood floors on 2nd floor and no sound insulation make for noisy neighbors, particlarly if they are undergrads or if they have dogs. Parking, at least near the unit, has gotten a lot tougher in the last year or so (especially when students are around). Heat/Water/Sewage are submetered through some collection firm which takes a $2-$7 of bill each month, and there's no individual control over usage. Rent keeps going up, above the price of current advertised amounts. Dirty neighbors caused a mouse to move in (I caught him!). Laundry, while on the premises, is often not well kept.
Try to sign a lease during an off month, when the market isn't hot with students. You may be able to save about $75 - $100 on rent. Mgmt is relatively flexible with short-term leases or breaking leases early, but it's going to cost you.
