I can't help but get a laugh out of the last two reviews - I hope other people can see through it as well.
There are ALOT of people here who have had a VERY bad experience with Society Hill and the company that owns it, NPI. The last two reviews (both of which are a little overly positive) are actually a little insulting to me. One reviewer says that the people complaining are the ones who "aren't happy with their lives" and "gazing at the ceiling with nothing better to do"...yeah right! I am a young, twenty something professional (software engineer) who generally lives a pretty good life in my humble opinion! I tried to get along with neighbors...a few of them were decent and considerate people. I really did NOT enjoy my stay at society hill at all, however...and I got to pay a very high premium for the bad experience. I wouldn't say that "you hear some noise from your neighbors" at Society Hill...you can practically follow their conversations when it's quiet! I am not trying to be vulgar, but you also get to enjoy their bathroom sounds quite a bit. I DO understand that in an apartment, you will hear a little neighbor noise, but Society Hill is particularly bad on this one. If you check out an apartment there, make sure the neighbors are home so you can see for yourself. I also don't know where the line about not allowing student renters came from...they never asked me if I was a student when I moved in - and frankly, most students couldn't afford such high priced accomodations. (And beyond that, I had an apartment when I was in college and I did NOT have "wild beer parties". Not all college students are like that...)
As for the other very recent positive review - yes - when you rent an apartment you don't have to take care of the landscaping and other tasks. Landscaping and maintenance doesn't seem to prevent anyone else I know from traveling - and I know people who travel 50 % for their job! Yes...they include water, sewer and trash in your rent...but how about that heat pump' PLEASE...if you are a potential renter and you've never experienced a heatpump based heating system in the winter time, this far north - read up on it. Search on google if you have to. I don't expect anyone to take my word for it on a forum like this - but you will find that if you want to stay at a comfortable temperature, you are going to be paying a HUGE electric bill because there isn't enough warmth in the air for the heatpump to extract. It's cheaper to BUILD an apartment that way, but it passes the expense on to the renter. As for dismissing the apartment noise in that review - I have stayed in three different apartment complexes over the years, and visited friends in numerous others - Society Hill was up there with the worst with respect to neighbor noise. The only place I have seen that was worse was a cheap apartment in Philadelphia that an old college friend has.
As for renters living their for years, there are some. They were largely the older generation...I think they were people who had downsized from homes for a variety of reasons. I have seen people like that in every apartment complex I have ever lived in...it's a good thing, but I think it only tells a small part of the story.
I thankfully moved out of Society Hill about 6 months ago. I had a nightmare of an experience with that, as some of the other reviewers have reported. Read your lease very very carefully...when you want to leave after the first year, (if memory serves me) you have a 10 day window that they MUST be notified in writing. Otherwise your lease automatically renews and you are on the hook for another year, or you pay a LARGE penalty just to leave. That gets alot of people and likely makes them (NPI) some very easy money.
I relocated to a nearby town where I currently have an entire townhome with NO upstairs neighbors (living in Society Hill will make you want that...), two bedrooms, and ALL UTILITIES included for $895 a month. That is only a little bit more than what NPI wanted to increase my rent to, and I have NO extra bills to pay (not even my heat, which is NOT a heatpump since they are paying for it...my cable bill and phone service is literally all I have), and an entire extra room and half bathroom with quite alot more square footage.
Society Hill has a very nice location and it looks good on the outside. It's close to some stores and malls. It certainly looked like a place I wanted to live - but my experience there was horrible. The turnover rate of the office staff during my time there told me alot about NPI and how they operate...maybe now that they have a little spotlight on their problems, they'll start treating their renters decently and letting the office staff actually help them.
I am not posting this anonymously - unlike the positive reviews.

Hey, I'm moving to the Camp Hill area in a very short time. Could you tell me where you found your current place?? My fiancee and I looked in the area all day yesterday, but didn't find anything that appealing. We are relocating from the NYC areas and are looking for a townhouse, hopefully with 2 bedrooms. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

I am currently over on the east shore of the Harrisburg area, in Middletown. (It's right off the turnpike...I can be on the west shore pretty quickly from here, but there are tolls.) It's not too bad over here, but if you want something closer (West Shore), I used to work with someone who rented a house in Etters for a pretty reasonable price at the time. (This was about 3 years ago.) Whoever the builder of that place was had an option to buy in the lease too, which seemed pretty reasonable. Hope this is of some help.

If you're looking for a place with 2 bedrooms, that isn't too far from Camp Hill, try Williamsburg Estates in Colonial Park. It's only about 10 minutes from Camp Hill and they have 2 bedroom, 1 bath townhomes that are very spacious and include heat & most utilities. My boyfriend's brother lives there and loves it. They're older but the community looks really good - they seem to take nice care of it. Good luck!

I was wondering why it's always so cold even though we keep the heat fairly high! And our bill is always expensive too. I have to use 2 comforters on my bed at night.

I am currently looking for my own place for the first time, and after reading a few of these complaints, I can safley say I will not be moving there. Would you be able to tell me where there is an apartment complex that doesn't have all these issues??
