Overall, I would not recommend these apartments

I lived at Washington Gardens for about 2 1/2 years.

On the positive side, the maintenance (although slow sometimes) was fairly good, the tenants were quiet, and the grounds, although nothing special, were well maintained. There is a small swimming pool (hours are quite restricted), and a very small exercise room. This is also a secure complex which was a nice feature.

On the negative side, the apartments are far from new, and the bathrooms and kitchens are sorely in need of updating in respect to fixtures and flooring (especially the bathrooms). The kitchen floor had chipped tiles, and I was never able to get the worn bathroom tiled floors totally clean. The carpeting which is used throughout most of the apartment is of poor quality, worn, and almost impossible to clean. In addition, the apartment was not painted before I moved in, and, yet, I was charged for painting when I left.

The laundry facilities are inconvenient in that one has to sign up for a weekly three-hour slot, and, if you miss that, you either have to travel down to the first floor and take your chances, or wait a full week to do your laundry.

I asked when I first moved in if there were mostly seniors in my building, and was told "No". I found out this was not the truth as the vast majority of tenants are senior citizens. Since I am not a senior, this was a disappointment as I had hoped to make some friends while living there. I also think this was a dishonest representation of the complex.

Given that the rental rates in this complex are higher than most of the rentals in the Carnegie area (I researched this after moving into the complex, unfortunately), it is my opinion that it is very overpriced for a mediocre, non-luxury complex.

When I moved out, I was blamed for "damage" to my apartment that I had not done. I am not sure what I am going to do about this at this time, but, I do know that I am in the process of looking into options. I felt this was the final straw in an overall negative experience at this complex.
