We lived at Plymouth Gardens for 2 and a half years and we were generally happy with the time we spent there. The time that you spend at P.G. may be different based on which building you get an apartment in. We had a nice 2 BR unit in the Ross building.
The Pro's:
- Management was very responsive to our problems, especially within the first week of moving.
- We got a unit with a private entrance which you'd be extremely lucky to get.
- We also were lucky enough to get a small washer/dryer in our unit.
- The unit we got was in the shade so it was almost never very hot in the summertime.
- The A/C units were nice but they are extremely LOUD.
- We never had a rodent or insect problem in our unit.
- We never had a theft problem outside or inside our unit.
- Everyone always writes on this site about how the walls were "paper thin." Not our walls. I NEVER lost one night of sleep in 2 and a half years due to noise. Again, it might have been luck on our part. Other units may have "paper thin" walls
The Con's:
- WASHER/DRYER: The washer/dryer that was in our unit is enough to get by. It s very very small and can only wash about 3-4 towels per load. You also can t run the dryer and the washer at the same time which slows down laundry day.
- SMELL: We almost never had to go inside the actual buildings into the hallways. Thank God. Those hallways always smelled like pine fresh carpet cleaner sprinkled over vomit. Or cumin. Cumin, cumin, CUMIN. The ceilings in the hallways were always falling down and when they did you could see the obvious mold problem that the pine-fresh cleanser was trying to hide.
- TRASH: The dumpsters get OVERFLILLED on the weekends beyond belief.
- NOISY/MESSY NEIGHBORS: Maintenance employees live in the complex. There is one family that lives in the back of the Clark building, and they have turned their small back porch into a huge "backyard" picnic area complete with table & chairs, motorcycle, swingy chair, BBQ, etc. Other regular tenants doing this with their back porch would get in trouble. But do these guys' Noooo.
- SHADY STUFF: While we're at it. Don t get an apartment in the Clark building. Too much shady business goes on there. Especially in the parking lot.
- HEAT: Our last winter (2008), the heat started to be very non-existent. The heat worked fine in our living room and spare bedroom but in our master bedroom it almost always never worked. Thanksgiving night 2008, our heat flat out BROKE and we slept in the cold for 3 days since no one cared to fix it till after Thanksgiving weekend.
- PARKING: If you don't get home from work before 4:30 you are almost guaranteed to NOT have a parking space remotely near your apartment. And if you decide to go out on an errand at 8 or 9 at night, you can bet that someone is lurking right near you waiting to "steal" your spot. It gets ugly sometimes for "prime" spots.
- WATER LEAKAGE: Our living room windows leaked whenever it rained very hard. Maintenance came to fix it a few times but all they did was patch it and caulk it. So of course, when it rained again we d have the same ol' problem all over again.
- MAIL: We had our mailbox right outside our private entrance. Seems nice, yeah, but whenever it rains while you re at work, all your mail is almost guaranteed to be soaking wet when you get home.
- LIGHTS: I called management a few times to replace outside lights. Not one was ever replaced. One walkway in particular got very dark.
Bottom line is: Depending on the building you d be getting an apartment in, your stay at Plymouth Gardens could be peaceful or miserable. Our experience was quite pleasant and I hope other people are lucky enough to have as good a time as we did.

You lived in the same apartment for eighteen years, without heat, through Pennsylvania winters. I think you need to have your head examined.
