Gave me a price on an apartment with a fireplace, would not let me see the actual apartment I would be renting (they said it wasn't ready) only to discover it was $35 more and had no fireplace. I should have walked away then, but had time issues and couldn't waste any more of it.
Lived there for 1 year, they then raised the rent $100 per month AND $26 per month for water. Offered great incentives to move in, but no incentives to stay. Will not negotiate at all, Hide behind the "Fair Housing Laws" only to discover the few people I have become friendly with, we all paid something different in rent anyway. Very poor leasing consultants, Gave very poor presentation did not make it known the location garbage dumpster, (you had to drive your garbage or very long walk) plus they don't recycle. I refered a friend, he signed a lease and asked what was the total he needed to make his check out for for the 1st month, 1 WEEK later he got a notice he was $30 dollars past due. They "forgot something" I loved my apartment, but wouldn't reccommend it

I happen to work in the industry and stumbled across your input above. And to set the record straight for those that may read it and take head to it, I thought I'd give some fair facts. 1. Most apartment complexes will not allow due to policy, a prospective resident to look at a unit that has just been moved out of. There are several reasons for it. One being that it is in process of being redone and may not be good or safe condition for someone to walk through. Another reason is because 1st impressions are everything and even if you said it didn't bother you... if the people who lived there before were pigs that would forever be how thought of that apartment. 2. I have no idea if they actually somehow raised your rent before you moved in but more than likely I think you probably looked at the apartments but didn't actually put a deposit down. Then when you did the prices had probably changed. Again, there would of been something in the paperwork you received when you went to look that would of told you that prices are subject to change at anytime. You should of put the deposit down when you 1st went. 3. Im sure they did not raise your rent $100. Im going to guess that you probably prorated the incentive you received when you moved in. Making it so you could pay less every month. That is great that you did but you probably forget what your actual rent was. And that amount is probably what you received your increase off of. NOT a $100 increase, more like $30 -40 dollars. 4. There is no hiding behind the Fair Housing laws. They are there for a reason and that is to protect everyone. The reason you can not negotiate is because then there would be no way to make sure that every complex was FAIR to every person. And your neighbors all paid something different because prices do change for everything in this world. So more than likely the price you came in at was not the same as your neighbors. 5. Lastly, I have a friend that lives at Ventana Hills. I asked them about the water fee. The way they explained it to me was that water was something they had been paying all along in their rent. But this year when they got the option to stay, that water was now shown so that they would see how much they paid for it. Also that they didn't just add yet another charge. But that the increase they expected was less than usual because of the water. And oh about the $30 past due letter... people do make mistakes now and again. Liked spelling referred, refered.

I realise this states Anonymous..But it seems very full of emotion such that its doubtful it was not written by the Mgmt. I am hunting for apts and after reading this very lengthy defensive response from an anonymous staff person, I am can confidently say i will look elsewhere.
