Great Location BUT BE WARNED

The plus side of this building was that it had great highway access, plenty of privacy, and great parking.

HOWEVER, there wre some down sides. First, I had a recently renovated unit with a brand new water heater that contained just enough hot water for a 5 minute shower if that...so having guests over or a roommate will be challenging unless they don't mind frigid showers. Second, the heater like everything else in the apartment is electric, and you will pay incredibly high electricity rates that are far out of proportion for the area.

I say high because I found myself paying over $120 a month on my electric bill for a one bedroom apartment. Even when I left town for three weeks, turned off my hot water heater (also electric) as well as the climate control my bill was still $50 a month. This was in direct contrast to what the apartment manager told me when I was looking at the place.

Prior to my signing the lease the manager stated the average electric bill would be $50 maximum and probably in the summer when i ran the a/c (an archaic unit by any standard). So, when my first bill of comes I'm shocked to find that it's over $100. I called the manager to inquire as to whether or not I was paying a portion of the prior resident's bill, and i was told very curtly that I was not. When i came down to inquire as to the average bill for other residents, the average turned out to be around $100 for all apartments.

If you rent here you will find yourself victim to what I believe is money-making scheme that works like this. You don't pay the electric company direct. First, a third party comes out to read your meter, which then bills Norwood House Apartments, who then bills you. So essentially you're paying Norwood, who pays this third party, who eventually pays the utility and I'm sure the rates being charged are quite padded. Why do I say this' Because people owning 4 bedroom houses not a quarter mile from my apartment were paying 1/4 the amount of money in electric bills that I was.

Eventually I moved because I found the rents rising faster than what the apartment was worth, and I was tired of having to turn off my hot water heater in the morning and hoping to remember to turn it back on again before i went to bed (otherwise I was stuck with a very cold shower).
