I have lived at Lafayette Towers now for about 8 months now and I have to admit that while lead to believe I will be living here for many years, I can't wait for my lease to be up. When you first come to visit the apartments, you get the whole song and dance about how great it is to live here. They show you this gorgeous and very spacious apartment. They tell you about all the benefits of living in the building and even add on that there is always security on site. I wish all these things were true but sadly as soon as I moved in all my hopes of living here for many years have begun to fade.

Lets be nice and start with the good things about this apartment. The apartments are extremely spacious. The amount of space is absolutely wonderful. The parking lot is also rather large and there is always a lot of ample parking. The location is terrific. It's nearby almost everything you could possibly want and right across the street from a hospital. And last but not least, all utilities are included but this has it's pluses and minuses. I never had to use the heat and as I said the AC was only put on for a few months under their rules. So I think by offering free utilities is actually a bad thing. I would rather pay for my utilities so I can at least control my own air and heat.

Now for the bad...well lets start with the security, the two women who secure the building leave at 9pm on Monday through Thursday and 12am on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. This means during the times when security should be on duty there isn't anyone to guard the building. I think both ladies who guard the building are sweethearts and they are great people. However, do not think they would keep me safe if anything ever did occur in the building.

Lets move on to the next lie...they say you have access to both your ac and heat, which lucky you is included in the rent price. Well that's not true either as the AC only comes on for about 3 months and is controlled by management and not you. It never gets overly cold in the apartment probably because of how old the ventilation system is. Not to mention, they don't turn the ac on until they want to. So when we were in the middle of a heat wave in early May...i had a few sleepless nights because my apartment was about 90 degrees. I even heard stories that some residents passed out due to the heat. Lucky for you...the hospital is right across the street.

Lets move on to how often things break in the apartment or how dirty the apartment is underneath it's first presentation. The rugs, which were said to be cleaned have so many spots on them. The dishwasher never cleans the dishes fully and my oven still doesn't have a working light, which was suppose to be fixed a few days after I moved in. My closet doors have fallen off about 5 times since I lived in the building. The bathroom has no ventilation at all and every once in a while you get a nice whiff of cigarette smoke that comes through a pointless vent above the tub.

How about mold...well my apartment is loaded with mold. This in itself is a problem for most but I actually have an allergic reaction to mold. So it seemed surprising that when I went to see my allergist he notified me that I was probably living in an apartment with a serious mold problem. So I investigated, I looked at the ceilings that tend to get damp from the humidity in the air, which of course causes mold. Not to mention the bathroom with it's zero ventilation. It's all over the apartment to be honest and if you look for it you can find it. Finally, my favorite surprise of all is when I came home one night and found that my ac/heat vent was leaking black liquid and it squirted all over the floor, my blinds, lamp, and my home theater speakers. After this occurred my apartment smelled awful of mold and not to mention the water stains all over the apartment and mildew because of this broken pipe in my wall.

And Last but not least the building itself...the building according to websites I have researched online has not been remodeled since 1975, when it was build. My apartment has water stains on the ceiling and if you look throughout the building you can see quite a few of them. In the warmer weather, the building feels like a Sauna, it is absolutely disgusting. The security system the building has is below-average at best. The gym has equipment is from the 1960s and hasn't been updated in years. The laundry rooms are a rip off and don't leave anything in them because it might get stolen. I have had a few things stolen from there including shirts, towels, and laundry detergent. I left my laundry basket in the room for an hour and come back and my detergent was stolen. I thought I was suppose to treat this place like my home and not a college frat house.

Bottom line: For the amount of problems I have had in this apartment for the short amount of time I lived here, I can not recommend living here to anyone. The rent is extremely high and you don't live in the luxurious building they lead you to believe. I don't feel overly safe in the building and the apartment management never seems to want to take responsibility for what happens in the building. When stuff was stolen I notified the office and they did nothing to help. Add that to the mold, the lies, and everything else it was a really bad experience and I hate to say it but I look forward to moving out.
