but, this review needs to be read by anyone considering moving to Lynnewood Gardens. I wouldn't have waited this long, but, I didn't know this website existed.
I've been in Lynnewood Gardens for seven years and I know that I'm crazy, but, I renew my lease every year because I want my nine year old son to have a better education than the Philadelphia public and charter schools can provide. I can't attest to the appearance of the renovated units, but, I can confirm the rodent problem and the EXTREMELY thin walls. Contacting maintenance with issues is a hassle (besides the fact that no matter what your issue may be, there will always be two maintenance people showing up for the job even if it only requires one, I for one don't give them permission to enter my apt. if I'm not there because I find that to be absolutely ridiculous. What is one of them the look out person, if you get my drift'. Getting in contact with an ACTUAL person at the management office was hard before, but, now it's nearly impossible because they have an automated system so nine times out of ten you will be leaving a message that no one will return and you will have to follow up.
I would say you might want to keep looking, but, they did recently allow people to have dogs so you're in luck. Although, it is a very grassy area (which drew me in and a lot of others) and now it's very hard to walk through the grass in certain areas without having to worry about stepping in dog poo because people are too selfish and inconsiderate to clean up after their dog so that's just great.
The laundry facility blows, there is one laundry facility for an apartment complex that has 1800 units, you do the math. When I moved in I remember them saying that they were building another one, that hasn't happened and to my knowledge isn't even in the works. About half of the washing machines and dryers are ALWAYS broken and when they're not you have someone's belongings left in the machine as if they are doing their laundry at home. I have had to remove people's items from the machines on more than one occasion because they were taking so long to come back. Oh, and people let their children play with the laundry baskets in the parking lots and what not so there are never any available to transport your clothes from the washing machine to the dryer.
When work is going to be done on the streets, inside the apartments or for service interruptions (such as no water for an entire day), they give you ONE day's notice, if that. You can count on a power blackout at least twice in the summer when it's really hot and everyone is running their air conditioner's. Actually it happens way more than two times because I've come home over the summer several times (and sometimes in the winter) to see that the time on my microwave needed to be reset, otherwise I wouldn't even had known about the power outage. But, a power outage when it is 80 degrees AT NIGHT and HUMID with no air and not even a fan is the worse and they last for hours. Most people leave their apt and just come back a few hours later, I don't drive so I don't have that luxury.
I am now in the process of vigorously looking for a 2 bedroom apt in Mont. County because I have had it with Lynnewood Gardens. For the price I pay (for a 1 bedroom "upgrade") it is not worth it anymore, the community is not nearly as diverse as it used to be and every day it seems like there are more riffraffs moving in and respectable people moving out. Speaking of which, I've gone through a lot of neighbors having been there so long, but, my new (June/July 07) neighbor below me has to be the absolute worse. EVERY time she enters or leaves her apt. she slams her door so hard that my apt. vibrates - no lie, and the volume of her t.v. and general conversations...oh my gosh. Sometimes I can't believe the noises that I hear coming from her apt., it's as if she lives above me and not the other way around.
Sorry to rant, but the best things about Lynnewood Gardens are the private entrances (once you open your door you're in your apartment) and the school district. If you don't give a crap about a private entrance and don't have children I would not suggest signing that lease.
I have so much to say and would gladly answer any direct questions. If you come back on here, read my response and want more answers or info just leave your e-mail address if you want. I'm just being honest about MY experience in Lynnewood Gardens, but, as you can see from the numerous reviews with a 28% recommendation, it's not just me. I only wish more tenants would come on here and write honest reviews. This complex wins the Best of Apartment Living award every year and for the life of me I can't understand why.

Crystal,
My brother currently lives in Lynnewood and he's had to deal with mice, a squirrel ripped through his window screen and came in the apt, and last week, his apt was burglarized. Not sure if it was a neighbor or an inside job but the police say it seems they came in the front door. It just seemed like someone may have watched him and knew he wouldn't be there... For the most part his time at Lynnewood has not been bad. But right now, the office is not being very empathetic about his loss, or the fact that he is scared living in his apt. They won't let him break his lease without penalty and they don't want to transfer him to another apt. We're in the process of trying to get them to reconsider. If you move to Lynnewood, maybe a second floor apt will be better in regards to safety...that's what my brother's trying to transfer into. I will say this...the schoold district is wonderful!! That's the reason I moved to this area...I own a house in La Mott. I have a son who graduated CHS, and now my daughter is graduating and going to the Univ. of the Arts in Philly. My youngest son is into music theater (they have a great program, and will be attending a vocal camp at the Kimmel Center.
Good Luck!!!
Lena
Also, you really can't beat the price...the only other reasonably priced apt complex I can think of is all the way in Hatfield (Hatfield Apts)...They're about 1/2 hour away from Lynnewood.
