Lived there for three years MUST READ!

If you are thinking about this place please read this!
I lived there for three years (2005-2008) and they really rip people off. The maintenance people took forever to look at my problems, and didn't always fix things properly. The management was very bad at communication, and Lynn was always extremely rude. There was one time I came home from work, and found my door was locked in a way that I don't usually lock it. The office was closed so I couldn't ask them if they had done anything, but there wasn't a note from them or anything. I walked in and things were not where I left them. Because I was afraid somebody was in my apartment I left and called the police. They searched the place for me, and told me to keep my doors locked. The next day I told the office about what had happened. Apparently they had to change something on every water heater in each apartment very last minute, and they never had time to contact anybody. I told Lynn my concerns and why I this scared me, and she just laughed at me.

There were also times where I would turn in my rent in to the office on time, and the people wouldn't record everything properly. It happened 5 times while I was living there. I would get a really nasty call from Lynn about my rent being late, so I would have to show up with my receipt from the bank saying they already deposited the check. I never once got an apology for any of the instances even though there was never a single month when I was more than 5 days late on rent. A few times they actually charged me a late fee, and I had to remind them what had happened and I had to show my bank receipt again! The management office also gossips about tenants in front of other tenants a lot. They are very unprofessional.

On top of this happening, the washing machines were always in poor condition and broken frequently. When a machine would be broken, it would take weeks for them to fix it, and there aren't many machines in the complex as it is. The driers were also in bad shape, and often I had to run my clothes twice through the dryer for a light load. It ended up being cheaper to drive to a laundry mat.

It doesn't help that the buildings that the machines are in are extremely disgusting, and are never cleaned. If you have a chance, visit the machines that are on Heritage Lane closest to the tennis courts. There are constantly water leaks, bugs, and dirt everywhere in those rooms.

Also, never walk through the grass in between the apartments. There was a huge sewage leak in back of mine, and it smelled for weeks. I was lucky I was on the second floor.

If you ever go by the apartments, you will see fake shutters on some of the windows. Those shutters bang against the brick when it is windy and are very loud. I don't know how many times they have fallen down making loud crashing sounds in the middle of the night.

You will also find that the sidewalks are all in very poor condition, and they are not conveniently placed. The shrubs planted by the apartment complex are an eye sore. It isn't rare when there will be a nice and full bush, but then a landscaper will come along and just chop it all up with no rhyme or reason.

In the winter time if it snows the snow plows do a horrible job. Instead of making one large pile of snow, and take up two or three parking spots, they will plow a pile through several spots leaving only half of a space for a car to park in. This has caused people to have to park in the shopping center lot across the street. They are also really bad at salting the ice.

The kids in this neighborhood are very rowdy and vandalize property. A rock was smashed into my boyfriend's windshield, and it had to be replaced. I don't know how many time people came out to their cars in the morning finding ketchup and eggs everywhere along with bad words keyed on random cars. One woman had to get a new paint job because of it. Yet the apartments refused to put up security cameras to catch these people.

So why did I stay at this place for three years' It was my first apartment, it was within walking distance from my job, and I didn't know apartments weren't supposed to be like this. I kept thinking that these were issues that people have to just deal with. I ended up moving because each year they were raising my rent, and if I renewed it again this year I would also have to start paying for utilities. I found a two bedroom plus a den (9x9ft) totaling 1100 sq ft in Devon for the same amount I would have had to pay at the place in Marchwood with not nearly as much sq. ft. The apartment I have is so much nicer, the management is awsome, they have a maintenance AND an overall satisfaction guarantee, and the complex is kept in great order. My new place just blows Marchwood out of the water!

I could probably go on for a hours about many other horrible things that have happened there... like the person being shot right across the street from my apartment during a car jacking... Look in the paper, it was in the fall of 2006 I believe. I really strongly sugest looking at other places in the area. Marchwood is not the cheapest place anymore, just the cheapest quality!
