When I moved here I was given a special offer - 1 month free. Well I should have know there are no free lunches. So what I got was a 13 month lease but they divided the amount among 12 months giving me the first month free. So my rent was about $150 per month more than those who weren't offered this deal. OK so it turned out to cost about the same and yet when they raised the rent after the first year (and they raise them quite a bit) mine was raised from that amount. So now I pay $200 a month more than my neighbors who have identical apartments. I am not the only one with these types of deals and they are just bogus.

You didn't check the final rent before signing the lease? Weird story. What about the apartments themselves?

This author is right. I wanted a move-in date of the 3rd of the month. When I got my lease (I had to request it faxed to me), the lease was extended to the end of the 13th month. I was told that moving in on the 3rd of the month was not considered a 12-mth lease, that all leases are written to start the first of teh month and end on the last day of the month. In other words, you cannot move in on the 15th and move out on the 14th/15th twelve months later. I would have to back-date to the 1st of the month (and send my check in before I moved in!) or go to the 13th month. The "Sure Deposit" of $250 that they mandate is NOT refundable. I offered to leave a $1500 deposit and they refused that. The pros....lots of great grocery stores, shops, and restaurants all around.
