Some good some bad
From: -Anonymous-Date posted: 5/26/2004
Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2004
Cons:
When my husband and I first attempted to get an apartment at Whiteland West we were given such a hard time. When they ran my husband's credit they found some "issues" however did not want to tell us what they were. Upon contacting the credit company we found that some information on his credit should not have been there (belonged to someone else-and the problems that did not were paid YEARS ago) That is not directly Whiteland West's problem but had they showed us the report we would not have had to go thru what we did. The deposit was supposed to be only $300 ours was $1900 because of the issues on the credit that should not have even been there in the first place and that was proven to them and they still up'd our deposit.
Next, I was not impressed AT ALL with the crappy flouring in the kitchen. Not damaged but just ugly and you can obviously see the cheap repair work that was done to cover up damage done by another tenant.
The refridge, DW and Stove do not match and it looks really tacky.
We were told that we were allowed to have patio furniture, so we went to Walmart and bought a Patio Bar (patio furniture that the table is "U" shaped to look or serve as a bar or buffet) we got continous threats to remove it because it did not "look" like patio furniture. We removed it.
We then received a letter stating that our neighbors complained about cigarettes butts in the yard and that we should use an ashtray. First, I am the only smoker, we had just moved in that past weekend and there were TONS of butts-I don't smoke that much. The people upstairs which there was about 8 (in a 2 bedroom mind you) of them smoke and I would watch them throw them out below their balcony on to mine. I had to clean it up, of course!
My husband and I have had to remove 3 mice that are living in a small hole underneath the kitchen cabinets. There are more in there we see them on occassion. We have contacted the front office about it and we were told that "Children attract rats". We do have children however we are not dirty people and neither are my children. If a rat has a place to live they will live there and will eat thru boxes to get the food inside. (I guess ONLY dirty people have boxes with food inside, too.) Needless to say nothing has been done about the issue except for us to catch them and let them outside and hope they don't just come right back in.
The electric bill is HIGH like for a couple with two small children (2 year old twins) the bill should not be near $400 per month during the winter when Whiteland pays for the heat.
Parking is a terror in itself. That is not Whitelands fault but the neighbors are completely uncaring that I have to carry both 2 year olds from one side of the complex to our apartment because they took all the close spots.
Bugs/spiders are a serious issue also. Just gross, big hairy spiders all over the place. Inside and outside there are bugs, ants, centipedes, etc.
Pros:
For what you get the price is not that bad. The layout is nice and spacious. The community is well lit. We have not had any real maintenance issues other then the rats so I can't really talk on that. We NEVER hear ANYTHING from the neighbors, SERIOUSLY! When they said the walls were sound proof they mean it. We never hear anything (and I have really good hearing, lol).
The neighbors are nice, the grounds are basic conditioned. Mowed, cleaned, watered, etc. They provide salt for the walk ways, they plow between 7-8am.
So the bottom line is this. There are bugs IN the apartments (not roaches but SPIDERS), Rats IN the apartment. The apartment is HUGE for the price (995.00), the layout is nice. The kitchen's need to be updated, BADLY. You will not be able to hear your neighbors (even during a party). Parking CAN be a pain in the rump, ecspecially if you come home late at night. The office staff is well, okay at times but our first impression of them was not all that great. There is no play area for young children.
So you have to look at what is important to you and make the decision from there.
We are moving out in July.
