I lived in a 2 BR apartment here for approximately 1 year. I thought they were laid out pretty nice, and a great deal for the montly price. The neighbors were nice, the apartments were pretty well kept and maintained. I really don't have any major complaints or problems. Only thing I thought it lacked was someplace to put a washer and dryer...had to use a public location in the complex for this. Not too bad really though.

My husband and I have lived in Shaler Highlands for 5 years. Our former landlady was extremely nice and cooperative and the maintenance crew were prompt in their services if anything broke down or if you had a flooding issue. The rent is reasonably priced if you are on a tight budget on a place to live. Some caveats that my husband and I have are as follows: The carpet was not replaced at the time of move in causing severe mold spores to grow to cause allergy attacks for me. The bathroom is not well ventilated to prevent mold spores from growing on the celling and walls. We had to Clorox the place every week and keep the door open at all times. We also believe that there is mold growing inside the concrete walls. I made a complaint about this to get this tested, but nothing was done. The new landlady that now runs the Shaler Apts is extremely rude. A month back (March 2008) my husband paid for our rent on time. The following week, we got an extremely rude letter saying that we did not pay our rent on time and that she reported us to the magistrate. This ticked me and my husband off completely. Instead of calling us to discuss this matter she did this. I think this situation should have been handled more appropriately. To make this short the office clerk finally did find my husband's check that we did pay and tore up the 2nd check (if in the event that the first check was not found). We deserve and formal apologize from the new landlady. The new maintenance crew is great at their job. Parking is accessible to anyone. Safety is good. Would we recommend this place to anyone? Well, if they can tolerate the landlady who is a complete ----- go for it. I wouldn't recommend this place to someone who have severe allergies toward mold. The place is really dreary with lack of lighting.
