Getting Better

I've had a review on here for a number of years. I like to keep it updated every few months and I don't mind being contacted with questions. Been awhile so here is an update. Rent just jumped, again in May. I now pay $40 more now than when I moved in.

I firmly believe things are getting better here. I don't wish to say anything bad about people but since a new maintence staff took over a few months ago, MOST of the negitives have become positives. Outside lights are now checked for being burnt out once a week, the grounds are much better looking and updates are being performed in every apartment. The new staff (Kevin and Frank) are polite and nice to talk with. I never got along with the old staff.

I been here for 9 years now (2000 - 2009). It is close to Kmart, Shop and Save, and a few other shops so you dont have to travel more than 5 minutes to get something which is a plus. Management has changed on 10/1/07. The new on site managers are very friendly. It is mostly quiet at night but you get from time to time people with loud motor cycles and people beeping, and when someone has a party, expect to lose your parking space along with most spaces on the street. They dont get it that guests are to park by the playground.

The laundry place is getting better. The floor seems to me haven't been washed in years, walls were just painted. While the new washers perform excellent, the dryers don't seem to dry all that well, takes alot of extra time (and quarters).

Construction is ok but getting run down. The outside by my padio is green with moss and the place just looks rundown. Needs a good coat of paint. Boards by my back door are rotted and just loook awful. Bees get into the holes of the rotting wood. They put dirt all around the buildings and its just a mud mess all over the out side of the buildings. They could of at least bought some grass seed. (As of 6/27/09 most of this has been fixed)

The bathroom is not well ventilated to prevent mold spores from growing on the celling and walls. If you don't clean the cealing and walls once a month with clorox it will get extreamly bad. They didnt paint or replace the carpet when I moved in so my place looked aweful. I had to paint it myself and didnt get rembursed.

You can hear people in the apartment above you, especially when they use the bathroom or run the sweeper. Place is drafty in the winter. Average heating bill is about $140/mo. Furnace is good but the AC is lousy and dosent cool well and is an electric hog being 35 years old.

If you have any specific questions please feel free to email me (rkratt@comcast.net). I tried to express my honest feelings for Shaler Highlands.
