I have been living here for a year and a half now, and my experience with Mount Vernon Gardens has been a very terrible one. But also, I want to emphasize that this is just my personal opinion, so it could be somewhat subjective, but I will try to write them as factual as possible for those who is deciding to move in.
I see lots of complaints about Mt. vernon's inadequate response to the various issues, and a few positive comments. Lots of them had been written a while ago, as far as 56 years. Well, it seems very questionable that majority of the issues that were reported a couple years ago still remain as the same problems that reside with the current residents. Some people argue that some of those complaints are not based on the facts, but how much bad experiences can you have to write a complaint on the Apartment Ratings website that are consistent over the years'
1. The maintenance
a. Heating - As you may already know, the heating is free in Mt. vernon. However, it does shut off quite a bit early, and it's very inconsistent as to the weather condition(When it is freezing, the heating is very weak, when it's warm, the heating is very strong). It gets quite frustrating, when you have to wear many layers of clothes at night just to go to bed and you find yourself quivering in the middle of the night. But I guess that's what you gotta take for the free heating right' It has been getting somewhat better than the past, but it's still not quite there yet.
b. Water - It's really hard to control the water temperature, especially when you take a shower in the morning. If someone in your apartment also takes a shower at the same time, there is no more hot water. I guess that also happens in other apartments too.
c. General Maintenance - Their response to the maintenance is very slow. You have to call them at least 34 times to get something fixed. Also, when it snows, they rarely cleans the parking lot for you, as well as the stairs. So you have to be very very careful, because they are super slippery and when you do fall, I guess you could simply sue Mt. Vernon for the bad maintenance. But they will learn their lesson after some accident takes place, which is very unfortunate.
d. Noise level - You could literally hear everything through the wall. It's very very hard to concentrate on work or studying.
e. Parking space - Parking space always has been available for me, as long as you come home before 89.
2. Security - there has been a number of burglaries that took place in Mt. vernon Apartmen complex. They said they will replace all the old locks for us a couple months ago, which they haven't yet.
Many people argue that this website cannot be trusted on the basis that some people are paid to write false statements in order to decrease the rent sales, so other apartment complex could get better opportunities. However, I want to emphasize that my only intention for writing this post is to provide a more accurate (perhaps personal) picture to the people, and bring some positive changes to the Mt. vernon apartments when management gets to see my opinion. If my small effort does make some changes in the future, I will more than happy to update my post according to the changes.
