Lived in a renovated unit - that picture is WRONG

Number 1, that picture is nothing even close to the units. The units are quite nice. I lived in the building across from the ones that had been burned down. It was a ground floor renovated unit.
The place is hard and expensive to heat, but you make up for it in the summer because it costs nothing to cool. Personally I just invested in a space heater and called it a day.
Everything was new, maintenance was great about fixing things, the management was easy to deal with. There were some sketchy things that went on, and more police visits than I normally like. However I kept to myself and had no problems with my time there. The neighbourhood kids aren't the greatest and sometimes break glass in the parking lot and won't move when you try to drive by until you honk a few times.
I had a handicapped parking placard so I personally never had a problem, but the parking situation was definitely a nightmare for those who don't. The parking is well lit, I never felt scared walking around at night.
Never had any problems with bugs, pests, or anything of the like. There are a lot of stray cats in the area though, left food out for them on a regular basis and they were quite friendly. The SPCA ignores calls to pick them up so most of the folks in the complex help take care of them.
Leasing office was okay to deal with - the place is now owned by Waterford who runs several wonderful complexes in York. They're working on fixing the place up and doing quite well. Overall, it's good value for the money. Just don't expect to make friends, keep to yourself, and avert your eyes outside.
