I was moving to the area for a new job and needed an apartment in about 3 weeks. Since it was the end of the year, rates were due to go up, but if I "moved in" the next day I could lock in the old rate. Reluctantly I agreed to get the lower rent but basically payed for 2 weeks' rent I wasn't living there. Why I couldn't sign the lease immediately but move in later, I don't understand. When giving the tour, they may try to tell you the kitchn has granite counters tile floors, but my apartment has laminate counters and vinyl floors (laid unevenly to boot). At least the kitchen and the bathroom were fairly new. I haven't experienced a lot of the problems with dogs or the neighbors cited in other reviews. I asked for several items to be fixed in my apartment before I moved in, but they weren't. The washing machine is deafeningly loud- no matter how carefully I try to balance the load. (Maintenance said the shocks looked fine) The exterior walls, especially the windows had a horrible draft all winter long leading to very high utility costs. Even though this is my first time renting, everyone I talked to though it was too high. Office staff has been pretty friendly and helpful in all of my dealings with them. Nevertheless, I have been here about 3 months and will seriously consider moving when my year lease ends, although the inconvenience of moving may be enough to keep me around (and the 2 month notice they require if you do not plan on renewing at the end of the lease term, another retention tactic that makes moving inconvenient)
