First off, I have lived in multiple apartments across the country and have NEVER once been treated with such disregard. Like many others recently, my work situation came to a head when my employer lost the contract that brought me to PA. I have lived in this apartment for a total of ONE month and regreted signing my lease as soon as I moved in. The condition of the apartment was horrible. Broken drawers and cabinets, mising switch plates, dirty oven and windows, etc, etc... I wish I could post pictures here. I now have the option of relocating or losing my job.

I gave notice and they want four months worth of rent out of me in order to break the lease. I have a hard time understanding how, if I give notice and leave immediately, they can charge me rent for another TWO months!!! These people are heartless and cold. The whole situation is ridiculous and idiotic. I'll be contacting Fair Housing to get some guidance.

Sorry about your circumstance. It embraces your true grit for accepting a legally binding contract. Good luck with Fair housing, its an option that I would not have thought of. Then again, I wouldnt have thought not to read the fine print of a lease and make a walk thru note so repairs were done from the get go. Live and learn. Seriously its a lesson to learn and to grow from. The landlord isnt accountable for your job loss but is accountable for advising you of the amounts due.

Wow Tayla, it's as if you missed 99% of anasmedic's post. While you may be technically correct about the lease, I think anasmedic was making a broader point about how they acted heartless and cold, PERHAPS coincidentally, similar to how your response feels.
