Nice community. Decent apartment.

Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2008
I moved to the area for my job (new to the area) and chose Williamsburg for several reasons: convenient location to shopping/ work; decent area; curb appeal; friendly staff; and decent price.
Noise- The walls are thin but I was fortunate enough to have relatively quiet neighbors. My biggest complaint is the noise from the AC/heating unit. I'm not sure what it's like in other apartments but when the unit kicked on it drowned out everything else, which was annoying when I was watching TV or on the phone.
Construction- I think the inside of the apts could use some upgrading...to match the outside of the apts and the community grounds. I had an end unit and the kitchen floor was slightly slanted. The floors also squeak. I lived on the first floor and the floors squeaked whenever my neighbors upstairs were walking around but it was something I got used to and tuned out (may not be as easy to do so if I had noisy neighbors). I could hear I-83 from inside the apt but it didn't really bother me.
Maintenance- they have been pretty responsive the handful of times that we've had (minor) requests. They were there either the same day or before the end of the following day. Some of the solutions are "quick-fix" solutions-- band aids for the problems. Our exhaust fan in the bathroom was rattling. Yes, they came the same day but they simply installed a small fixture to buffer the rattling which worked for a couple weeks before the problem re-occurred.
Staff- I personally have experienced nothing less than professionalism from the staff , even when I was going through the non-renewal process. Both my roommate and I were out of town on business trips but the leasing agent was helpful in ensuring that my roommate and I submitted the appropriate documents in time. I don't know what it's like at other apt communities but I have to give the office credit for hosting community events. One time I was leaving for work and the staff was waiting near the property exit handing out lunch bags to residents.
Overall- I have since relocated because of my job. Would I have renewed my lease at Williamsburg if my job allowed' I can't say yes with confidence-- I would probably look around at other apartments to see what options I have(since I am more familiar with the area). It's a good community. I had friendly, helpful neighbors. I can't say I love the apt itself--I'd like to see some upgrades for the price I pay for rent. At the same time I haven't had any experiences that would cause me to dislike it.
