Glad I moved there

Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2007
I was a satisfied tenant at Jericho Manor for nearly two years. This must easily be the nicest apartment complex in the Abington/Jenkintown area. I was so happy to find clean and affordable living so close to my job and not far from the city. My wife and I made our move out once we learned our baby was on the way. We love our new home, yet we miss a lot of the conveniences at Jericho. As apartment complex living goes, there is no better in this area.
Things to consider:
Parking. Most posts here mention trouble with parking, but parking was seldom a big deal unless we returned home after 10 PM on a weeknight. Once we got one of the many garages (for just a little extra expense) we could come and go anytime without worry. Anyhow, in 2007 management worked with the township to add dozens more spaces, so finding a space is now a non-issue.
Move in/out. Notoriously hard work to move in/out on the upper floors of some buildings. Hire a professional mover - it's worth it.
Walking. With no elevators and most parking being a healthy walk to your door, food shopping becomes more of an event. Fortunately, the canopy of trees gives you a lot of protection from sun and rain. Also, don't expect to walk into town or to the train stations. I've walked to the library and the post office, but found it more convenient to drive.
Groceries. Nearby Whole Foods market can be a bit pricey, as can Trader Joe's. There's a great deli next to Whole Foods.
Restaurants. Plenty of basic carry-out to choose from in the area. Italian, Chinese, Thai, Mexican.
Heating/Cooling. Tenants do not control the heating. Luckily, there is usually an abundance of hot water heat provided by huge gas boilers. It's not unusual to see some windows open in the middle of winter time. Bring your own AC, especially if you get an upstairs unit.
Storage. You will get a nice, free storage unit in the well-lit basement near the laundry. Keep your things elevated off of the floor, as a washer could overflow or a pipe could open up.
Laundry. Well maintained and up to date. No need to go to a laundromat. Especially convenient if the facilities are in your building.
Noise/Privacy. Keep it down. These are apartments, not condos or town homes - 30's style buildings without special sound-proofing or fire-walls between units. Buy some curtains and carpets to put over your windows and lovely hardwood floors. Your privacy is respected here.
Security. Never felt unsafe here. Well lit walkways and halls. Plenty of people around.
Utilities. All included. Units pre-wired for cable. DSL available, but not FIOS.
Management. They are professionals who work hard for the Jericho Manor community.
