was so happy to leave....

Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2006
I lived at the Lafayette for 2 years in a ground-floor 2 bedroom split layout...moved out in July 2006. I used to inspect the tub every morning before I took a shower because, without fail, there were bugs to be killed every day. My bedroom was infested with bugs....those long millipeed-like creatures that I guess were coming from the trees outside. They came out of the air conditioner, the heater, the cable hole in the wall... Our place wasn't clean upon move-in, probably because it was never clean to begin with, and was never going to get clean, no matter how much we scrubbed. We were missing floor tiles, shudders on the "window" between the kitchen and living room...the carpet was gross - I'm praying they replaced it when we left, but you never know with the Lafayette. They'd come to fix a leak I called to complain about, say they couldn't find it, and leave. I had to have my air conditioner replaced 3 times during my stay there, and each time, they replaced them with successively older models. They must have a storage unit full of old, smell air conditioners. My first one broke on move-in day.....it was 100 degrees and management had gone home for the day (it was a Saturday). One day, my closet imploded from the inside...the rack buckled and the door came clear off the track. I asked them to replace the rack, since it was obviously broken, but instead, they reassembled the old rack and nailed it right back where it was. It was never the same.
Energy bills were a whole other matter.... in the winter, our highest bill was $136. My roommate was never even there, so it was basically 1 person's energy consumption. It's because the apartments use electric heat and all the windows and doors are drafty.
And good luck with the trash shoots....they're too small, always dirty, and they smell up the laundry rooms to the point of unusability.
When I began to look at other apartments when my lease was nearly up, I made the mistake of going to Valley Forge Suites, another Westover company. They told me that Westover doesn't like residents defecting to other Westover complexes and that I'd have to fill out a whole slew of paperwork in order to "downgrade" to a 1-bedroom apartment where I would be living alone. They considered me switching from a 2-bedroom living situation with a roommate to a 1-bedroom apartment with just myself as a "downgrade" and they didn't like it.
I have never regretted leaving Westover apartments behind forever!
