Outdated 1960's-Vintage "Luxury" Apartments
From: -Anonymous-Date posted: 2/24/2007
Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2006
Some nice vintage features - hardwood floors, bigger than average rooms, balconies, high ceilings & oddly bucolic 16 acre close-in location. On the minus side:
- Cheap & cheesey rehabs of tiny kiitchen & bath areas
- Management firm otherwise specializes in Section 8 housing & sometimes sees fit to treat clients in this complex with similar TLC.
- Waiting lists for updates to ancient window A/C units. Outdated & noisy seasonal steam heating system runs very hot or very cold. Pretty much impossible to regulate temperature & humidity levels.
- Maintenance staff for a semi-antique 80 unit complex cut from 4 to (variously) 1 to 1&1/2. Not fair to the remaining staff who do try hard.
- Unending problems with elevators, pipes, basement flooding, odors, deteriorating pool, phone & cable connections, false alarms, etc. etc.
Sum up: The Barrcrest daily gives you an almost dizzying variety of reasons to rethink your rent vs. buy decision.
