Nice place to live...

We moved here from NJ, a little over 2 years ago and the rent was cheaper and the place bigger than there. So for us it was a huge upgrade!! We had a pleasant experience with the leasing office. We came on a Saturday (they are no longer open on Saturdays) and toured the area and different apartment complexes. This by far was the best in the area. It was a little pricier than the others, but nicer by far!! At first we moved into a 3 bedroom 2 bath apartment on the first floor. It was very spacious! We did have a water leak issue that took a few months to resolve, but they management office and maintenance staff were very vigilant in doing so. And they replaced our carpet in the general area of the leak because mushrooms were growing out of it because of the water. The office was great about the whole thing. They never gave us a hard time. The district manager gave us her cell phone number and told us if we had any problems to call her. The real problem we ran into was the smoke from the lady next door was coming through our vents into our back bathroom and laundry room. They smelled like a smoker's lounge. We called going to the bathroom, taking a smoking break. By the way, we are non-smokers. Also the noise from youth living above was startling at 3:00 a.m. They would stomp up and down the metal outdoor stairs laughing loudly. Also, car lights from the parking lot would beam into our bedroom window. We decided to move to another part of the complex for those various reasons. We were mainly concerned for our health with the smoke. But we also found out we were pregnant and needed more space. When one of the townhouses opened up we opted to move in. It meant not sharing vents with other apartments. We were required to have the carpets cleaned by a professional, but we didn't have to give another deposit. Move in was pretty smooth. I am not sure though how much effort they put into cleaning the place since they knew it was a transfer and not new tenants. They did do the routine painting, but the rug seemed dirty, but they say it was cleaned. Honestly, it should have been replaced before we moved into it, but since we have a now 3 year old and a 1 year old we didn't really care because it would have just gotten ruined anyway. We have had some bug issues with a type of bug they call a water bug. It looks like a roach, but walks much slower and doesn't scatter when the lights come on. Also, occassionally in really rainy spring worms end up dead all over our floors. And a couple of times we had ant issues. They respond very quickly with the exterminator. Only one time did I have to wait about 2 weeks for the ant problem. If something is broke they pretty much come the next day. Our toilet paper holder broke and the burner and the stove and they came right away. It's amazing and It's great! And the maintenance staff is really friendly!! The appliances are older and apartment used, which is to be expected. As they break they replace with other used working ones. Safety isn't a real concern, although they will leave notices about cars being broken into occassionally (make sure you lock your doors!!!). With the Amish farm across one street and the other also with residential houses you forget that you are only about 3-5 miles from a real CITY with crime and shootings. For that reason it is a VERY safe place to live. There is also a state police station at the end of one road and the township police at the other end. It's convienient to shopping, major roads, etc...There is a pool and the ability to use the sister complex Greenfield Estates indoor pool. The outdoor pool is not lifeguard staffed (it was when we moved in the first summer). It is only open from Memorial Day to Labor Day, but you can drive to the indoor pool, which is lifeguarded and open year round. A neat thing for us that they have is a unit to rent like a hotel for family for only $75. It usually has two bedrooms and a full kitchen. We have used it a lot. Hotels are hard to get during tourist season and are more expensive. Also, there is a really nice paved path to walk around the whole complex with two ponds. There are two swans that usually have a baby in the spring. The only thing I am finding that happens this time every year late August-early Fall is the Canadian Geese defecate all over parts of the path by the pond, so it makes it impossible to navigate, especially with a stroller. I am afraid to move because I don't know that there is a better place to live than where we are. I reccommend you begin with a townhouse and save yourself the trouble of moving twice. It's worth it!! We live by other families with young kids, so it's nice and very quiet. I know you can rent cheaper, but the maintenance is so good I don't want the trouble of having to pay for repairs or have bad service. Good Luck!!
